There's power in the Word, so we preach the Word in season and out, and Lord help us be careful to always agree with the Bible.
We point people to Christ with our Lives, our conversation or attitudes, with the Scriptures with our personal testimony. Yes, there's power in the name of Jesus who is the living Word. Remember how he never messed it up with his life, attitude or message. He never once missed it with any prophecy.
"The devil has his ministers. There are some, who by the subtlety of their wit, have learned the art of mixing error with truth, and to give poison in a golden cup. TAKE HEED who you hear and how you hear. BE LIKE THE NOBLE BEREANS, who searched the Scriptures daily, to see whether the things that they taught were true or not. " (Acts 17:11). ~ Thomas Watson
The Bible is not just a book of stories and the living word is not passive. He is active.
The Living Word of God corrects us when we lose sight of spiritual truths and then revives us. Psalm 19:7 says, "The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul."
The two discouraged disciples out on the Emmaus Road had lost all hope after Jesus was crucified. Mr. Hopes we're still back in that dank grave! However, when Jesus walked along with them and He explained the Scriptures to them, then their hearts burned within them. Bad holy heartburn! God's Word revived them, bringing them back to life they've been called to.
If you desire a life filled with focus, purpose, and direction, start reading the Bible Good like you've never read it before! Contemplate it, muse long over, ponder it, and let it sink in. The Word of God is the refreshing power that can nourish your soul and bring people.. zoe life!
Peter preached the word commanding people to, "Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, 20 that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, 21 whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago." Acts 3:19-21 esv
Repentance and Faith in Christ: The key to experiencing these "times of refreshing" lies in repenting of our sins and turning back to God. This involves placing our faith in Jesus Christ and establishing a relationship with Him. The Holy Spirit kept on and keeps on inviting weary souls to find rest and renewal in Christ (the living word).
The living word of God, the Son of God said, "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30 amp
When I study, when I prep I think: CIA and pray. What does CIA stand for?
- Context (is key)
- Interpretation
- Application (wisely putting shoelather to it, where the rubber meets the road).
Ask God - I ask: So what do you God want them to know from Your word?...and or to do from Your word? When I study I pray and ask myself:
• A - is there an Attitude I need to adjust?
• P - Is there a Promise I need to claim?
• P - Is there a Priority I need to change?
• L - Is there a Lesson I need to learn?
• I - Is there an Issue I need to resolve?
• C - Is there a Command I need to obey?
• A - Is there an Activity I need to avoid?
• T - Is there a Truth I need to believe?
• I - Is there an Idol I need to tear down?
• O - Is there an Offense I need to forgive?
• N - Is there a New Direction I need to take?
• S - Is there a Sin to Confess?
