IN HIS OWN TIME, NOT MINE.

"The nations fall into the pitfalls they have dug for others; the trap they set has snapped on them. The Lord is famous for the way He punishes the wicked in their own snares!" (Psalm 9:15,16 TLB)

I say.. Go for it, Lord, and deliver Your fitting, swift, sweet justice, protecting the citizens even in the Western countries! Have your way, do your own thing and we will praise You. In Jesus' name.

Again slowly, "And, now, O Lord, have mercy on me; see how I suffer at the hands of those who hate me. Lord, snatch me back from the jaws of death. Save me, so that I can praise you publicly before all the people at Jerusalem's gates and rejoice that you have rescued me. The nations fall into the pitfalls they have dug for others; the trap they set has snapped on them. The Lord is famous for the way he punishes the wicked in their own snares!" (Psalm 9:13-16)

Have you ever looked at a beautiful orchid and watched it slowly, O so slowly, blossom day after day? Have you ever tried to help it open up?

Listen, if you try, you might ruin it. God makes everything beautiful in His time.

My wife Liney has been nurturing some orchids.. yeah, just sticks for 4 months now, and they're now just slowly day after day (just 4 flowers) starting to blossom.

She's actually getting good at it (she's been good with all other plants). I don't have what's called a green thumb, but all the trees I've planted here are doing well. Grateful!

He (God) causes everything to straighten out and line up according to His own schedule and will.

May I encourage and challenge you some?

If you have a problem in your life with a mean person or a tough circumstance, just pray and rely on God to resolve it all. "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord" (Rom 12:19).

One of the worst things we can do is to take judgment into our own hands.

Sure, we can evaluate with His wisdom and should. Please do. Sure, we should be fruit inspectors (starting at home in these two shoes), and stick with the facts, but not be judgmental with others.

The Lord knows where each one will eventually go, and he alone casts the final judgment. That's what "Judge not lest you be judged" means (with this favorite verse to quote of lost people in this era).

You want to make your reservations in advance right!? We never want to hear "Depart from me.."

What did Jesus mean when He said, “I never knew you. Depart from Me?

What!?.. judge not lest you be judged (Matthew 7:1)?

Why will not everyone who says, “Lord, Lord,” be saved?

What are some Bible verses about mercy?

Yo Bro, what's the meaning on, “Do not judge”?

Need some more verses about judging?

What does the Bible say about when God will judge us?

Judgment begins at the house of God.

What does the Bible teach about Jesus as judge?

What are the specifics that happen at the final judgment?

What is the judgment seat of Christ?..it's dif cuz it's for believers.

What happens right after the last breath in death?

How was the flood in the time of Noah just (and those violent days are like today, huh)?

What is Judgment Day?

What does it means that mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:13)?

Will there be a second chance for salvation after physical death? Uhh, nope.

What is the great white throne judgment?

What did Jesus mean when He said, "I never knew you. Depart.."?

IN HIS OWN SWEET TIME

The psalmist basically teaches us, Let God be the judge, the jury, and the prosecuting attorney. He knows more about all this than you and I do. The psalmist assures us that, in His time, God will catch those who are doing wrong. The nations will fall into the pit they have made. Sinners who have laid nets in the pathway will indeed get caught in those nets. "The wicked is snared in the work of his (or her) own hands" (vs 16) #emph.mine

"The nations have fallen into the pit they dug for others. Their own feet have been caught in the trap they set. The LORD is known by His acts of justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their own hands."
— Psalm 9:15-16

There is a holy pattern woven throughout Scripture: those who scheme against God and others often become trapped by their own devices. Pharaoh drowned in the sea he pursued Israel through. Haman was hanged on the gallows he built for Mordecai. Daniel's accusers were thrown into the very lions' den they intended for him. God's justice is never confused, never late, and never unjust.

King David cried:

"O LORD, have mercy on me. Consider my trouble from those who hate me.. that I may tell of all Your praise."
(Psalm 9:13-14)

Like David, we sometimes long for God to act immediately. We see evil prosper. We watch injustice flourish. We wonder why the Lord seems silent.

There's a time when we need to just jump in there and wisely protect people when we can. Our world today is filled with too many passive onlookers who pull out their phones when they need to simply rescue. There's a time for filming a crime in progress when you can pull someone to safety.

Yet God is never passive, lazy, or inactive. He is never pacing heaven all frusterated, wringing His hands. He is ruling without rival.

Q: Have you ever watched a rosebud slowly unfold? Day after day, petal by petal, it opens according to the Creator's design. Try forcing it open, and you destroy the very beauty you hoped to accelerate.

My wife Liney recently nurtured several orchids for months. At first they looked like little more than sticks. Then, almost imperceptibly, tiny buds appeared. Slowly, one blossom opened, then another. What seemed dormant was actually developing according to God's timetable.

So it is with God's providence.

"He has made everything beautiful in its time."
— Ecclesiastes 3:11

The Lord untangles knots we cannot untie. He aligns circumstances we cannot control. He sees motives we cannot see. He knows every hidden detail, every secret thought, every act of injustice, and every wound His children carry.

That is why Scripture says:

"Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, 'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,' says the Lord."
(Romans 12:19)

Christians are called to exercise discernment, not personal vengeance. We are to evaluate actions according to truth, not sit on God's throne as final judge. We can recognize evil without becoming consumed by bitterness. We can pursue justice without usurping God's authority.

God alone knows every fact.

God alone knows every motive.

God alone renders perfect judgment.

As A. W. Tozer wisely observed:

"God never hurries. There are no deadlines against which He must work."

And Charles Spurgeon wrote:

"God is too good to be unkind and too wise to be mistaken."

When evil seems unchecked, remember: God's delays are not God's denials. His clock keeps perfect time.

The Judgments of God

The Bible reveals a God who is infinitely loving and perfectly just.

"Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne."
— Psalm 89:14

Scripture records several major judgments:

What Were Some Past Judgments?

  • Adam and Eve expelled from Eden (Genesis 3)

  • The worldwide Flood in Noah's day (Genesis 6-9)

  • The Tower of Babel (Genesis 11)

  • Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19)

  • Egypt and the Ten Plagues (Exodus 7-12)

  • Satan and the fallen angels were cast from their position of glory (Isaiah 14; Ezekiel 28; Revelation 12:4,9)

Present Judgments?

  • Self-examination by believers (1 Corinthians 11:28. True repentance and saving faith needed?)

  • God's loving discipline of His children (Hebrews 12:5-11)

Soon Coming Future Judgments?

  • The Tribulation judgments (Revelation 6-16)

  • The Judgment Seat of Christ for believers' rewards (2 Corinthians 5:10)

  • The Sheep and Goat Judgment of the Nations (Matthew 25:31-46)

  • The judgment of fallen angels (1 Corinthians 6:2-3; Jude 6)

  • The Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15)

Nations and Individuals

God judges both nations and individuals, but not always in the same way..even though He's totally just.

Throughout Scripture, nations experience temporal judgment within history. Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Tyre, Nineveh, and Israel all faced consequences for collective rebellion, injustice, violence, idolatry, and national sin.

Individuals, however, ultimately stand before God personally.

"Each of us shall give account of himself to God."
— Romans 14:12

A nation may prosper temporarily while individuals within it suffer. Likewise, a nation may be judged while righteous believers within it are preserved, as Noah was in the Flood, Lot in Sodom, and Daniel in Babylon.

God sees both the forest and every individual tree.

Will Christians Really Judge Angels?

Paul wrote:

"Do you not know that we shall judge angels?"
(1 Corinthians 6:3)

The exact details are not fully explained. Most evangelical scholars understand this to refer to redeemed believers participating with Christ in the future judgment of fallen angels.

God has already pronounced judgment upon Satan and his rebellious hosts. Their final sentencing awaits the appointed day.

Jude says certain fallen angels are already:

"kept in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day."
(Jude 6)

The One who cast them down will also complete His judgment of them.

When evil appears victorious, remember Psalm 9.

The trap-setter is not always the winner.

The schemer is not always the victor.

The oppressor is not always the one who gets the final word.

God does.

The Judge of all the earth will do right.

The Lord sees every tear, every betrayal, every injustice, every hidden act of righteousness, and every faithful saint who wonders when deliverance will come.

Wait on Him.

Trust Him.

Obey Him.

Praise Him before the answer arrives from Christ.

For in His own perfect time, God has a way of turning the enemy's snare into the enemy's downfall and transforming His people's trials into testimonies.

"He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice."
— Deuteronomy 32:4

And because Christ bore judgment at the cross for all who believe, the Christian can rest in this glorious promise:

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."
(Romans 8:1)

Justice belongs to God.

Mercy is found in Christ.

And both meet perfectly at the cross.

"Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for His grace;
Behind a frowning providence,
He hides a smiling face." ~
William Cowper hymn

"Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" (Genesis 18:25)

The Bible's answer is clear: Yes. Always. He's totally just and fair. God has never not been.

"All the earth bows down to You; they sing praise to You; they sing praise to Your name. Selah Come and see the works of God; how awesome are His deeds toward mankind. He turned the sea into dry land; they passed through the waters on foot; there we rejoiced in Him. He rules forever by His power; His eyes watch the nations. Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah." Psalm 66:4-6

We each choose. Every person is either walking in and led by the Spirit or is walking according to the desires of their fleshly nature.

"Your life will prove what leads you." ~ J.C. Ryle

It might sound kinda audacious, but it's so true.. "Only those with God's Spirit can understand spiritual truth. To others it seems foolish and makes no sense" (1Cor.2:14

We each'll choose. Every person is either walking in and led by the Spirit or they are walking according to the desires of their fleshly nature. Can't do both at once. @kurtWvS

There is a hope for you that is not dead and buried. During perilous times, why look to your self-generated hope level when you can focus on the Source of lasting hope? #aLivingHopeChrist

What is the living hope in 1 Peter 1:3?

What is the Christian's lasting enduring hope?

What even.. is the definition of real hope?

Need some Bible verses about hope?

What does it mean to abound in hope (Romans 15:13)?

There's nothin' you can ask God for that is too big or too difficult for Him to pull off for His glory. But He wants you to look to Him to meet all your needs (not greeds), and simply ask in faith! He's a kind Father.

Man, whoever said you had to murder your brain to become a real believer? Hey Buckeroo, never do that!

What's the most popular Bible verse in our society? "Judge not, that ye be not judged." Yup, that’s an unbeliever’s favorite today (Matthew 7:1). Carnal and worldly Christians love to quote that too.. so they can keep living with their pet (pleasurable destructive) sins.

Hey, who Are You To Judge, Dude?

We should evaluate (use discernment, rightly judge) according to facts instead of according to presumption, personal preferences, or feelings. We don’t have all the facts. Let's learn to discern right from wrong, and truth from half truths and from full error. The future is here.

Why have a puffed up judgmental spirit? Why live bitter, or always negative with a bad attitude? Don’t be like the arrogant Pharisees or Sadducees in the way they judged. Live humbly and righteously.

They often quote it (Matt. 7:1) to ward off those with the right message, a good witness. And perhaps they’ve sadly seen pushy judgmental hypocrites (worldly, religious, carnal believers) as well.

Share the Good News in love. Hate the sin and error, but love the sinner. Let’s listen well, and judge (evaluate) according to words and actions and not motives. We can’t see the heart or thoughts of the mind. Only God can see hearts and thoughts. Test what the false teachers and false prophets say and do according to the Scriptures. Does it square with the Bible.

How do you watch out for spiritual wolves, aka false teachers unless you know the word.. know what to listen for, or sentences (message) to judge?

Do they go against the Essentials of the Bible? If so we prayerfully appeal to them to repent, but if not then we wisely break fellowship with them.

Do they disagree with you about disputable matters, namely non-essentials of the Christian faith? Show love to all people, and don’t break fellowship with these people.

Our unity as born again believers is to be formed around the Christ of the Bible, the Essentials of the Word and around nothing else really. This is basic stuff of real love! (I Blogged)

“In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity” ~  Rupertus Meldenius in AD 1627

To answer before listening—that is folly and shame. Proverbs 18:13 (KJV)

He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

Proverbs 18:13 nlt

Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish. Proverbs 18:13 nkjv

He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him. Proverbs 18:13 ncv

Anyone who answers without listening is foolish and confused.

Hey, I too like that Matthew 7:1 verse. See Bible the whole context as well.

We are to evaluate, we are to judge with righteously.

Are you Mr. or Ms. Plankeye? So many seem so unable to see their own ginormous plank. Is it a two by four, or a four by eight?

Let’s each start with us removing the huge log in our own eyes before addressing their splinter. God help this saved sinner (me) look at my heart and judge myself. I am so unlike Jesus but want to be more like him in his character.

“Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.”  Proverbs 31:9 esv

“Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.” John 7:24

“You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.”  Leviticus 19:15

What does the Bible mean that we are not to judge others?

How was the flood in the time of Noah just? It was a judgement of God. God is judging our nation the USA today.. yes we are seeing part of it. But there is hope for you today in Christ.

What does it mean that “the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure” (Genesis 15:16)? God still judges the immoral and wicked. How many babies have been murdered in our Western World. Do you think God has forgotten about all those He created? Turn and trust Jesus -- repent, believe and follow the living Word.

What does the Bible say about AIDS / HIV? Is AIDS / HIV a judgment from God?

Do you really know all the facts about this Covid 19 and Delta Variant.. really? I don't.

What is the meaning of pestilence in the Bible?

I'm not trying to make you feel bad or afraid, believer. If I was lost today, I would do well to fear and quickly come to Christ on His terms. Do you have the holy fear of God inside?

What does “perfect love casts out fear” mean?

“Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?” Romans 2:1-3 Read more..

Jesus said...

“Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”
Matthew 7:1-6

The more strictly we judge others, the more strict God will judge us. God will hold us to that standard. We all fail from time to time, but we are not God. Our judgements are temporal and God’s are eternal because he sees everything. He has a wider and longer view.

The people who are strictest with others are often the ones least likely to accept strictness.

Our present culture believes in the icon of permissiveness, the deeply held conviction that tolerance is the same as love. However, the Bible teaches that we must discriminate; we must make careful judgments regarding prophets, doctrine, values, and lifestyles.

What happens at the final judgment?

What does it means that mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:13)?

What does it mean that the Holy Spirit will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment?

What are all the different judgments in the Bible?

Eternal Judgment.. tell us more on this.

What does the Bible say about when God will judge us?

What does the Bible say about when God will judge us?

Good idea for us all. Judge you first, tell on yourself, confess, turn and trust -- come to Jesus today.

When will Judgment Day occur? What exactly is going to happen on Judgment Day?

Not right here in America! Are you sure? Judgement.. really?

Kurt, do you really believe that America will be judged?

Yes, cuz sadly no nation has sinned against as much light as we’ve been given here in the USA.

I have zero glee in saying this, but it's true.

Isn’t the USA already being judged? Yes. (And believe me, I love and pray for the people of this wonderful Land)

Other nations will be judged as well, but as individuals, we each can turn, trust and get right with God today. Am looking at truth in the Bible here..

Ah, Lord GOD!” I replied, “Look, the prophets are telling them, ‘You will not see the sword or suffer famine, but I will give you lasting peace in this place.’ “The prophets are prophesying lies in My name,” replied the LORD. “I did not send them or appoint them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a false vision, a worthless divination, the futility and delusion of their own minds. Therefore this is what the LORD says about the prophets who prophesy in My name: I did not send them, yet they say, ‘No sword or famine will touch this land.’ By sword and famine these very prophets will meet their end! And the people to whom they prophesy will be thrown into the streets of Jerusalem because of famine and sword. There will be no one to bury them or their wives, their sons or their daughters. I will pour out their own evil upon them. ~ Jeremiah 13-16

So much Lust, hubris, and Bible-hating-Leftism here (any of it is horrific). And so much idolatry and occult activity too -- so much false worship here. ie, Harry Potter and the New Age movement. So much violence and murder even of the innocent here -- babies on their birthdays even. One other thing to seriously consider.. We have had so many blessings here, and yet the USA is a top exporter of porn. Sadly, the sins of the world are the sins of the church. The shipo can be in the water, but when the water gets in the ship.. it can sink. Don’t let it.

For the gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness. For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.. Romans 1:17-19

Prideful know it alls that lie, rebellious, lustful, violent. Let's learn to mourn our sin.. and learn to hate it like God hates it. Let's abandon all excuses and love righteousness like God loves righteous standing and living.

Church people, and worldlings guess what.. it’s a really good day to ditch your sins, repent and obey the Gospel of Christ. Decide to, even at great personal cost if need happen. It does need to happen now.  Come to...or come back to God through His Son Jesus.

"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" 1 Peter 4:17

Ever been asked.. Is America under God's Judgement?

People are still feeling scared, very concerned about the Covid Plague.

Today, I was again asked ..Is America under God's Judgement?

For sure it's not happening here like after the Rapture happens. But please be and live rapture-ready -- you can be today.

You know many nations and people are really suffering a lot right now, many are losing their businesses too. So heartbreaking to see.. Some nations are because of Socialist, Marxist and Communist leaders.. or have religious leaders that are way off in left field promoting violence towards Jews and us here in the USA. Pray for all people high up and for commoners like me. Just know.. God loves all Americans and we can still biblically worship Him... we can help the hurting too, and win many people to faith in the Jesus of the Bible. We need to keep the main thing.. first worship and then witness.. the main things.

You know that sin is what brings suffering here, and judgement, and God’s wrath (like will happen during the Great Tribulation) and even death here. The wages of sin is death... but some people suffer due to other people's sins here. Please know that there is more grace in God's heart than sin in your past or in my past. I was asked today.. Is America under judgement? Biblical grace stands against sin teaching us to fear (respect) God, but today there is a kind of so called grace that wrongly embraces sin. It's destructive. (I like to listen to Lutzer on this topic).

What does it mean that judgment begins at the house of God?

Judgment is a recurring theme throughout the Bible (see Psalm 82:8). God’s plan includes a final judgment on the wicked and all who reject the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as payment for their sins (Matthew 10:15; Romans 2:2; Hebrews 9:27; 10:26–27). A cursory reading of 1 Peter 4:17 seems to suggest that Christians may face God’s judgment, too: “For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?” Is the “judgment” that begins at the house of God the same as the judgment of the wicked?

The context of 1 Peter 4:17 explains more about the judgment that begins at the household of God. In this chapter Peter is exhorting the church—the house of God—which was facing persecution, to persevere. The believers were also struggling to separate from the former worldly sins that had once enslaved them (verses 1–4). Peter reminds them that the wicked will face God’s judgment (verse 5) but that believers in Christ must hold themselves to a higher standard than they once did. The “fiery trials” that they were facing were to help refine them like gold (verse 12).

God allows difficulties and suffering in the lives of His people to purify them. When we are persecuted for the cause of Christ, we share in His sufferings (1 Peter 4:13–14). And when we share His suffering, we know Him a little better (Philippians 3:10). Paul echoes this theme in Romans 8:17: “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Part of God’s judgment upon sin is physical suffering. When His own children experience such suffering, it is not for our harm but to make us more like Jesus. “Judgment” for the children of God can be considered discipline (Hebrews 12:4–11). It is designed to purge the sin from our lives and teach us obedience.

A loving father does not discipline the kids down the street, because they are not his. A father disciplines his own children. Likewise, the discipline of our heavenly Father begins at His own household, with His own children, the church. He is reserving for the wicked an ultimate, final judgment that His children will never experience (Romans 8:1). Scripture makes a distinction between God’s purifying discipline of the church and His ultimate condemnation of the wicked: “When we are judged . . . by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world” (1 Corinthians 11:32).

In this present age, God allows painful circumstances in the lives of His own household, not to condemn but to mature, convict, and bring repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). Through suffering we learn patience (James 1:2–4). This kind of judgment is to encourage us to abandon selfishness and draw nearer to Him (James 4:8). The ultimate, final judgment for unbelievers will be eternal separation from God, from life, and from all that is good and beautiful (Matthew 8:11–12; Revelation 21:8).

The judgment that begins at the household of God also includes church discipline. Church discipline is not for unbelievers but for believers: “What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?” (1 Corinthians 5:12). Believers are commanded to take responsibility for other followers of Christ who may be slipping or headed toward sin (James 5:20). First Corinthians 5:11–13 commands us to avoid fellowship with anyone claiming to be a brother or sister in Christ but who insists on maintaining a sinful lifestyle. Jesus lays out the process for church discipline in Matthew 18:15–17. Someone who has been confronted multiple times and warned that the choices he is making are in opposition to God needs to repent. If he refuses to listen to the church, we are to turn away from him in the hope that this drastic action will bring about repentance (see 2 Corinthians 2:7 and Galatians 6:1). As believers, we are to pursue holiness and encourage each other to pursue it, too (1 Peter 1:15–16). We are to judge ourselves as God’s household (1 Corinthians 11:31). In this way, judgment begins in the house of God.

There will be another kind of judgment for all those who have been redeemed by God’s Son. Second Corinthians 5:10 says, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil” (cf. Romans 14:10). This judgment for those who are “in Christ” is not to determine eternal destiny but to give rewards for godly service and faithfulness (Matthew 16:27; Revelation 22:12). Jesus commanded us to store up treasure in heaven (Luke 12:33). This treasure will be revealed at the judgment seat of Christ. This glorious day will be more like an awards ceremony than a trial, because everyone present has already had their eternal fate secured when they were born again (John 3:3). Jesus Himself will give us crowns and treasure to enjoy for all eternity according to what we have done with all He had entrusted to us (Matthew 25:21).

God’s desire is that His people learn to walk in holiness and fellowship with Him (Romans 8:29). As any loving parent would do, God will bring unpleasant consequences upon His children for rebellion. He expects the ones He has redeemed by the blood of His Son to set the example for the rest of the world. If the church is not in pursuit of holiness, the world sees no need to change its allegiance. So judgment begins in the household of God, with His own children, as He teaches us to live like Jesus.

Some have asked.. What does the Bible say about sickness like from the Covid Plague or from AIDS / HIV. -- are those due to the judgment from God here?

Fundamentally, all disease is a judgment from God. Adam and Eve did not know corruption of any kind before the Fall. When God pronounced judgment on Adam, death entered the world (Genesis 3:19; Romans 5:12). All sickness, from the common cold to cancer, is part of the curse, and we who live in a cursed world are subject to decay. So, yes, AIDS / HIV and other STDs (along with all other diseases) are part of God’s judgment in a cursed world.

The Bible plainly teaches that our choices bear consequences. Whatever a man sows, that’s what he reaps (Galatians 6:7-8). Righteousness brings blessing: “Keep my commands and you will live” (Proverbs 7:2); and sin brings judgment: “He who sows wickedness reaps trouble” (Proverbs 22:8). One of our problems is that we want total freedom to choose our actions, but we want them consequence-free. The reality is when we choose a course of action, we automatically choose its corresponding result. Scripture warns that sexual sin carries a built-in judgment from God. “He who sins sexually sins against his own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18). “God will judge . . . all the sexually immoral” (Hebrews 13:4). It cannot be denied that living according to biblical principles (sexual fidelity within marriage) drastically reduces one’s chances of contracting HIV / AIDS and other STDs.

Romans 1:18-32 is an indictment of the heathen, idolatrous world. It starts with these words: “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men.” This passage teaches that the sin of homosexuality has its roots in a denial of God. It brings about shame, degradation, and a “due penalty.” Since STDs such as AIDS / HIV are attendant, for the most part, upon sexual sin, they must be considered as part of the “penalty” which reveals “the wrath of God” against the wickedness of men (verse 18). A key phrase is “God gave them over,” which occurs three times. God gave them over to sexual impurity (verse 24); to shameful lusts (verse 26); and to a depraved mind (verse 28). The meaning is that mankind chose to go its own way, and God allowed it. Granting mankind the freedom to go even further astray was itself a punishment on previous sin.

None of this is to say that everyone with AIDS / HIV is guilty of sexual sin or that homosexuals are beyond redemption. Tragically, some people have been infected with AIDS / HIV by blood transfusions, by innocent contact with another person who has AIDS / HIV, and most sadly, by being conceived in the womb of a mother who has AIDS / HIV. The Christian response to AIDS / HIV should always be one of grace and mercy. No matter how a disease was contracted, our responsibility is to be ministers of grace, love, mercy, and forgiveness. We do not have the right or authority to proclaim that an AIDS / HIV contraction is a specific judgment from God on a specific sin in a person’s life. We have a responsibility to do good to all (Luke 10:29-37), and the gospel we share is still “the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16).

What are all the different judgments in the Bible?

There are several judgments mentioned in the Bible. Our God is a God of justice, as the psalmist says, “A scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom” (Psalm 45:6). It is the Lord Jesus Himself who is the Judge of all the earth: “The Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son” (John 5:22). Jesus alone is worthy to open the scroll (Revelation 5:5). Here is a list of significant judgments in their likely chronological sequence:

Judgments that have already occurred:

The judgment of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:14–24). God banished the first couple from the Garden of Eden for violating His clear command not to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This judgment affected all of creation (Genesis 3:17–18; Romans 8:20–22).

The judgment of the antediluvian world (Genesis 7:17–24). God sent a worldwide flood in judgment of mankind’s sin in Noah’s time. The flood destroyed all of mankind and the animal world, except for Noah and his family, whose faith led them to obey God’s command to build the ark.

The judgment at the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:5–9). Noah’s post-flood descendants remained in one location in defiance of God’s command, so God confused their language, causing them to disperse over the earth.

The judgment of Egypt and their gods (Exodus 7—12). The ten plagues against Egypt at the time of the exodus were “mighty acts of judgment” (Exodus 7:4) against a stubborn, cruel king and an idolatrous people and their gods (Exodus 12:12).

The judgment of believers’ sins (Isaiah 53:4–8). Jesus took this judgment upon Himself by His crucifixion and death. “He suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone” (Hebrews 2:9). Because our sin was judged at the cross, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). It was also at the cross that God pronounced judgment on the unbelieving world and on the enemy of our souls, Satan. As Jesus said shortly before His arrest, “Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out” (John 12:31).

Judgments occurring now in the church age:

Self-evaluation (1 Corinthians 11:28). Believers practice self-examination, prayerfully and honestly assessing their own spiritual condition. The church helps in this endeavor to purify the Body of Christ (Matthew 18:15–17). Self-judgment requires each believer to be spiritually discerning, with a goal of being more like Christ (Ephesians 4:21–23).

Divine discipline (Hebrews 12:5–11). As a father lovingly corrects his children, so the Lord disciplines His own; that is, He brings His followers to a place of repentance and restoration when they sin. In so doing, He makes a distinction between us and the world: “When we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world” (1 Corinthians 11:32). Whom Christ loves, He chastens (Revelation 3:19).

Judgments to occur in the future:

The judgments of the tribulation period (Revelation 6—16). These terrible judgments are pictured as seven seals opened, seven trumpets blown, and seven bowls poured out. God’s judgment against the wicked will leave no doubt as to His wrath against sin. Besides punishing sin, these judgments will have the effect of bringing the nation of Israel to repentance.

The judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10). Resurrected (and raptured) believers in heaven will be judged for their works. Sin is not in view at this judgment, as that was paid for by Christ, but only faithfulness in Christian service. Selfish works or those done with wrong motives will be burned up (the “wood, hay, and stubble” of 1 Corinthians 3:12). Works of lasting value to the Lord will survive (the “gold, silver, and precious stones”). Rewards, which the Bible calls “crowns” (Revelation 3:11) will be given by the One who is “not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him” (Hebrews 6:10).

The judgment of the nations (Matthew 25:31–46). After the tribulation, the Lord Jesus will sit in judgment over the Gentile nations. They will be judged according to their treatment of Israel during the tribulation. This judgment is also called the judgment of the sheep and the goats because of the imagery Jesus uses in the Olivet Discourse. Those who showed faith in God by treating Israel favorably (giving them aid and comfort during the tribulation) are the “sheep” who will enter into the Millennial Kingdom. Those who followed the Antichrist’s lead and persecuted Israel are the “goats” who will be consigned to hell.

The judgment of angels (1 Corinthians 6:2–3). Paul says that Christians will judge angels. We aren’t exactly sure what this means, but the angels facing judgment would have to be the fallen angels. It seems that Satan’s hordes of demons will be judged by the redeemed ones of the Lamb. Some of these demons are already imprisoned in darkness and awaiting judgment, according Jude 1:6, due to their leaving their proper dwelling place.

The Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11–15). This final judgment of unbelievers for their sins occurs at the end of the Millennium, before the creation of the new heaven and earth. At this judgment, unbelievers from all the ages are judged for their sins and consigned to the lake of fire.

In Job 8:3, Bildad, one of Job’s friends, asks, “Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert what is right?” The answer, of course, is “no.” “He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just” (Deuteronomy 32:4), and God’s judgments will make His perfection shine forth in all its glory.

One of the Holy Spirit’s tasks in this world is to convict the world of coming judgment (John 16:8–11). When a person truly understands his sin, he will acknowledge his guilty position before a Holy God. The surety of judgment should cause the sinner to turn to the Savior and cast himself on the mercy of God in Christ. Praise the Lord that, in Christ, “mercy triumphs over judgment” (James 2:13).

9. I really want to pray for friends that have AIDS, but how? Pray in Christ..yes humbly pray in faith to the Father God in Jesus Name. He hears and He heals some people here, not all. Not sure why but He knows best. Just know that all reborn believers will one day be totally healed and happy..in heaven and during the millenium here on earth.
