Family priorities, are for keeping in order.

There's a great playbook so to speak for your home (though it's not always mere fun and play). The Bible of course gives us wise home governing principles for the need of the moment and those circumstances sometimes determining who requires our most immediate attention.

YOUR KIDS NEED MORE THAN A MERE DAD AROUND OCCASIONALLY.. DUDE. GOBS OF GUYS CAN PULL THAT OFF.

One day you might not be able to live so close. Take none of them for granted.

Being in the house doesn't really mean you're present.

Your Presence > Material Presents

Your wife (second priority BFF after your close companionship with the Lord) needs your attentive ears and eyes/attention.

Your children need your vigilant involvement. Duh!

Your home needs your steady leadership. Your family and friends need your prayers.

Put down the phone. Turn off the other screens and distractions.

Look them in the eye every time they speak.

DON'T JUST LIVE WITH YOUR FAMILY.

LIVE FOR JESUS 100% (ALL in, not outside of), AND HELP THEM. We love them best when we love Him most. Remember that triangle when a couple moves up it closer to God they move closer together.

YOUR FAMILY NEEDS MORE THAN YOUR PRESENCE

Listen up. Upward. The couple that prays and praises together, with the right address attached, more often than not stays together. You want that and it basically works for the family as well.

There is something profoundly beautiful about a husband and wife who do not merely live under the same roof, but who intentionally walk closely toward the Lord Jesus together. When two people continually, biblically draw nearer to Christ, they are also spiritually drawn nearer to one another.

The Bible does not give us some rigid, step-by-step chart for every family's life together -- we're all so different, each with different giftings and specific callings. Scripture does, however, give us clear principles on priorities that help us understand how our relationships should be ordered around our first love and highest allegiance to: God (a Trinity) Himself.

GOD FIRST (Matthew 6:33)

The foundation of every healthy Christian relationship is our relationship with God. Seek the Lord and his will for you first, before everything else.

Deuteronomy 6:5 says:

“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”

That wholehearted devotion to God is clearly communicated from the Holy Spirit through human authors in Matthew 22:34–40 (and all through the Bible), where Jesus identifies loving God the Father with His family, and loving our neighbors too as the top two greatest commandments. Yes, John 13:34–35 does likewise call Christ's disciples to love one another as He has loved us.

God is not simply supposed to occupy one place on our list of priorities. He is the One around whom every other priority is arranged. Our focus remains primarily on Jesus.

Our marriage, parenting, friendships, work, ministry, and service to others all become healthier and more vibrant when they flow from loving God first. I'm glad my wife loves the Lord more than she loves me and I always want to love the Lord more than I love her, but she comes next.. and our kids appreciate this.

Regular participation in the life of the church is one expression of that commitment. Hebrews 10:25 reminds believers not to give up meeting together, but to encourage one another.

The question is not merely, “Am I busy doing Christian things?”

The deeper question is:

“Is the Bible's Jesus Christ (A real person, the second person of the Trinity) truly first in my heart, and are my relationships being shaped by my devotion to Him?”

THEN, FOR THE MARRIED, THE BIBLICAL MARRIAGE MUST BE NURTURED

For a married person, the marriage covenant carries profound biblical responsibility.

Ephesians 5:25 commands:

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”

And Ephesians 5:22 instructs wives to submit to their husbands:

“as to the Lord.”

These commands cannot be separated from the larger context of Ephesians 5, where marriage is presented as a picture of Christ and His church.

The point is not that a husband gets to demand submission while ignoring Christlike sacrifice. Quite the opposite. He is called to love sacrificially, serve selflessly, and covenantally, and following the pattern of Christ.

Likewise, a wife's submission is ultimately described as being “as to the Lord.”

She is never to submit to her husband if he's commanding her to sin. We all are to be in submission to Authority.. short of sinning. It's about maintaining peaceful safe order instead of dangerous chaos. Our God is not a God of confusion and chaos.

The marriage relationship therefore is not merely about two people trying to get along. It is about two people learning to live under the lordship of Jesus Christ (He is to be our first love), and as we mature spiritually getting closer to him, we normally cuz it's normal ..fall in love more and more with our dearly beloved friend (yes, spouse) in Him.

TWO BECOME ONE

Genesis 2:24 establishes the foundational pattern:

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

Ephesians 5:31 repeats this same truth.

Marriage creates a new covenantal family unit. Husband and wife are no longer merely individuals living parallel lives. They have become one flesh.

That means your spouse cannot be treated as an accessory to your life, an afterthought to your career, or someone who simply receives whatever leftover time remains after everyone and everything else has been served. Ministry and career cannot come first or that's a recipe for disaster. Some mere human or a female at work guys.. cannot become a closer friend to you than your spouse. Don't let it happen.

Your wife needs more than your presence in the house.

She needs your full attention.

She needs your listening ear, your eyes looking at her when she speaks, your prayers, your tender gentle affection, your faithfulness, your protection, provision, your honesty, your encouragement, and your willingness to love her when loving her costs you something. Or costs you a whole lot.

And husbands need to remember that Christlike love is not merely a feeling. It is demonstrated through sacrificial action.

THEN COME THE CHILDREN AND THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BIBLICAL PARENTING

Children are not interruptions to the Christian life. They are part of the stewardship God entrusts to parents.

Proverbs 22:6 says:

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Ephesians 6:4 likewise instructs fathers not to provoke their children to anger, but to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Many dads get this passage thrown up in their faces (by accusers) when they really have remained reasonable and fairly gentle.

Many in the world also pull up their favorite verse. You know it right?: Judge not lest you be judged.

Deuteronomy 6:7 calls parents to teach God's Word diligently to their children throughout ordinary daily life.

That means biblical discipleship does not happen only during church services or formal Bible studies.

It happens around the dinner table.

In the car.

At bedtime.

During conversations.

When children watch how their parents respond to disappointment.

When they see whether Dad keeps his word.

When Mom and Dad forgive one another.

When the family prays together.

When God's Word is opened. We never pressure, mandate or force Bible memorization on our kids but offer this as a good option for very beneficial discipline.

When parents apologize.

When children see their parents choose obedience to Christ over convenience.

Your children need your vigilant involvement.

They need more than a parent who pays the bills.

They need a parent who knows them well. Us dads do need to work a lot of hours but I've never taken on inordinate overtime, or second or third temporary jobs.. except with a few rare exceptions.

They need your presence, attention, instruction, affection, correction, prayer, and example.

HONOR YOUR PARENTS

Scripture also gives continuing importance to our relationship with our parents.

Deuteronomy 5:16 commands:

“Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you.”

Ephesians 6:1–4 likewise speaks about children obeying their parents and about parents raising their children according to the Lords Word. There's some powerful principles in the Bible.

The Bible does not establish an expiration date for honoring one's parents. Nope.

An adult child is no longer under the same delegated parental authority or any obligation to obey the parents ..like when he or she experienced as a child. Yet the responsibility to honor one's parents remains.

That can involve respect, gratitude, kindness, practical care, appropriate communication, and, when necessary, material support even.

Jesus gave an especially strong warning about this in Mark 7:9–13. He rebuked spiritually dead religious people / religious leaders who used religious tradition as an excuse to avoid caring for their parents.

In other words, so-called good religious activity must never become an excuse for neglecting legitimate family responsibility.

EXTENDED FAMILY MATTERS TOO

The circle continues beyond the immediate household.

1 Timothy 5:8 says:

“But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”

The principle is unmistakable: Christians are not supposed to use ministry, church activity, career, or personal ambitions as an excuse to abandon legitimate basic responsibilities toward their families.

Sometimes loving your family means sacrificing something you would rather be doing.

Sometimes it means changing your schedule, or schedule-request to your boss.

Sometimes it means saying no to an opportunity.

Sometimes it means stepping away from a ministry responsibility for a season so that you can faithfully care for someone God has entrusted to you.

Faithfulness at home is itself Christian ministry. God the Father expects faithfulness and fruitfulness from us as we abide in Jesus Christ (the vine).

THE FAMILY OF GOD

Our responsibility does not end with biological family.

We belong to the family of God. We are surrounded by creations of God and some of them choose to become children of God via true repentance and saving faith.

Romans 14 tells believers not to judge or look down upon their brothers and sisters in Christ (v. 10), and warns us not to place stumbling blocks in the way of another believer.. or in the way of anyone.

Much of 1 Corinthians likewise addresses how Christians are to live together in love, humility, order, and unity.

Galatians 5:13 says:

“serve one another in love.”

Ephesians 4:32 tells us:

“be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says:

“encourage one another and build each other up.”

And Hebrews 10:24 says:

“consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

These are not merely suggestions for particularly friendly Christians.

They are the normal expectations of life within the body of Christ.

AND THEN THE WORLD

You can love those in the world around you without loving the corrupt World system. We're never to love that. Jesus did not save us so that our concern would end at the front door of our house or at the doors of our church.

Matthew 28:19 gives the Great Commission:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”

Our families are part of our mission field For sure. so we never stop earnestly praying for them, but they are not the entirety of it.

We are called to love our neighbors, serve others, proclaim the gospel, make disciples, and represent Christ in the world.

The biblical pattern therefore is not simply like some rigid ladder that says, “I have finished loving this person, so now I can move on to the next.”

Rather, God the Holy Spirit, moment by moment day by day He is to govern all of our relationships simultaneously.

There will be seasons when one person's needs require extraordinary attention.. or faster than immediate attention.

A sick spouse may need our immediate care.

A young child may need our presence. My little grandson Augie (August) recently jumped into (it occasionally happens with him..) a Costa Rican pool by the Sea and sunk like a rock. He was rescued by his dad.

An aging parent may suddenly require substantial assistance. My dad Kim has dementia but daily gets good care and attention.

A fellow believer may be walking through a crisis, and we can be there for them as well.

A lost neighbor may need to hear the gospel. If we can be willing to cross a sea to reach the loss, then we can certainly be willing and empowered to cross the street to witness to a neighbor who is open to hearing what really so.

Christians should be the first to be able and discerning to accurately read the room. Wisdom means recognizing what love requires right now, while remaining faithful to our other God-given responsibilities.

YOUR FAMILY NEEDS MORE THAN YOUR PRESENCE

One day, you may not be able to live so close.

One day, the children will grow up.

One day, the house will become quieter.

One day, your parents may no longer be here.

One day, your spouse may be the only person sitting across the table from you.

Take none of them for granted.

Being physically present in the house does not necessarily mean you are actually fully present.

You can be sitting three feet away and be a million miles away in your mind.

You can be in the same room while your attention is somewhere else... on one of many screens.

You can provide presents without giving presence. Some parents do that to compensate for their workaholism and absence.. or poor treatment of their spouse.

Presence > Presents

Put down that phone. Talk to God more than to AI, to Siri or to Google.

Turn off the other screens for almost every meal time together.

Put away all the distractions.

When your wife speaks, listen up, discern, respect, prethink before you respond.

When your children speak, listen.

When your parents speak, listen.

Look them in the eye.

Give them your attention.

Your family should not have to compete with All the beeps vibrations and buzzing of notifications from your phone ..for your eyes, your ears, or your heart.

Your wife needs more than your physical presence. She needs your attentive presence. Even safe non-risky touching and affection. ABT - always be touching each other but in safe inappropriate ways (I mean, without expectations or any demands).

She needs the man who will pray with her first, listen to her, laugh with her, grieve with her, encourage her, protect her, and walk with her.. with companionate-love ..toward Christ. We started out as best friends and we're going to stay best friends cuz God (our top best Friend) helps us be best friends.

And your children need more than your financial provision.

They need you.

They need your involvement.

They need your example and basic biblical instruction or warnings at times.

They need your prayers.

They need to see what genuine Christianity looks like when Dad is feeling way tired, disappointed, frustrated, successful, misunderstood, tempted, or afraid. Consistency is a thing.. that's majorly needed daily.

The kids need to see that Jesus is not merely something their parents talk about on Sunday. Children long for a 24/7 365 kind of biblical faith.. that wisely applies shoe leather to the concrete of everyday living.

They need to see that Jesus is Lord of the home.

DON'T JUST LIVE WITH YOUR FAMILY. LIVE FOR JESUS 100%, AND HELP THEM. GOD CAN USE YOU TO WIN AND/OR EDIFY THEM

This is where everything comes together.

We love them best when we love Him most. FIRST.

The goal is not to worship our family, or spouse as some people like to do. The goal is not to follow your wife like she's Lord of you, gentlemen. If she's got a great idea, go with it, but let Jesus remain Lord of it all. Man, you are to be wise, responsible, mature, balanced leaders that are considerate as you follow Jesus. I often think about Adam succumbing to the bad idea of Eve with that snake in the garden.

The goal is to love our family under the lordship of Christ, not some snake like person. You know what I mean, the enemy (Satan) and his thugs.

Jesus must remain first - the chief executive decision maker of your life.

And precisely because He is first, we learn how to love everyone else rightly.

Think of that ole familiar marriage triangle: husband and wife are at the lower corners, and God is at the top.

As husband and wife move upward toward God, they simultaneously move much closer to one another. It really works that way.

The closer we genuinely walk with Christ (the God man), the more Christlike our love for one another should become.

A forgiven people should become a forgiving people. Let that start in the home!

That is why a couple that prays and praises God together, yes, with the right address attached, has something much deeper holding them together than shared interests or romantic feelings. The Holy Spirit spirit is the glue for me and Liney -- He gets all the glory.

The two are still learning to build their marriage around Christ. We don't graduate from the learning periods in marriage while here.

THE BIBLICAL PURPOSE IS GREATER THAN A PRIORITY LIST

Lists are convenient.

We like checking things off.

A list can make us feel as though we have accomplished something because we can point to what we have done.

But God's commands are not merely a heavenly checklist.

They reveal the kind of people God is calling us to become.

The Christian's master command is beautifully simple:

Matthew 22:37–40:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

And Jesus connects that immediately with loving our neighbor as ourselves too.

Everything else flows from those two great commands, and from the Holy Spirit's enabling as we look to him for empowerment. God is love and he keeps pouring his love in as we abide in him. Man's love is so small, we can run out.. or we can ask God for more of his agape.

So in family life, we love our wives and then they respect their husbands (Ephesians 5:33).

God is the initiator and we are the responders. We love him because he first loved us. The husband lovingly initiates with her best interests at heart, and then the wife feels like responding in love.

We become one in marriage (Genesis 2:21–24).

We teach.. line upon lying, precept upon precept, here little they're a little.. in the day in and day out moments of life..so our children to know and follow God too (Deuteronomy 6:7). Not merely know about God and his Book, but personally firsthand know Him -- the Author of the Book.

At home and elsewhere, does your relationship with God...Exude Joy and excitement, Mom and Dad? Is there an overflow of compassionate anointing in your neighborhood, and elsewhere wherever you go?

We never want some "do as I say but not as I do" mentality. Let the Lord help you become a good example going the distance.. hand in hand. With one hand we reach out to Jesus, and with the other we bring a friend.

Homeward.

We honor and care for our parents too as the Lord gives us wisdom to do that (Mark 7:9–13).

We pursue unity with fellow believers (John 17:22).

And we carry the Gospel message into the world of people who are really lost, confused, discouraged, twisted, and desperate (See Matthew 28:19).

These are not tasks that we complete one at a time. I'm talking about an ongoing missional lifestyle led by the greatest missionary who ever lived Jesus, who left Tmthe riches of his home in heaven on purpose.. for the greatest purpose. He was come to seek and to to save that which was lost. Intentional selfless living is His and it can be yours as well.

You do not finish loving your wife and then graduate to loving your children. You know that, Buckaroo.

You do not finish loving your children and then receive permission to care about your parents.. or the lost of other cities and Lands.

The Christian life is lived in the midst of all these relationships and real trials. There are moments of suffering in the Christian experience, But we don't consider those strange. Jesus suffered for us all the way to Calvary where he died on a cross in my place.

Has God called you to go, to send, to support, to pray for missionaries? He has called you to pray for your pastor and leaders at a healthy church.

Our attention may shift according to circumstances, but love does not disappear simply because our attention has shifted.

FAMILY, CHURCH, AND KINGDOM

Our family priorities must always be understood within the larger context of God's kingdom in mind.

Marriage is not ultimately about building our own little kingdom. Nope, not even at work. Do we build our own Kingdom. Thy eternal Kingdom come Lord, please use us to populate and build your Kingdom. Why waste our sorrows and trials.. why waste anything while here?

Marriage in the Lord.. it is about becoming a covenantal partnership that honors God and serves His purposes. That's a clean communication of fellowship continue.

Husband and wife strengthen one another.

Together...

They raise children to know and serve Christ.. His way not our way.

They honor and care for aging parents.

They serve the church. All of them are to varying degrees.. flawed.. but we hang in there with His family. His grace is flawless and abundant. He loves them so we can love them too.

They love their neighbors.

They proclaim the gospel.

They become a living testimony of what God's grace can do in a home.

John 17:22 records Jesus praying that His followers would be one, just as He and the Father are one.. cuz unity of the Spirit is important.

Unity within Christian families and unity within the church both display something of God's heart for His people.

And 1 Timothy 3:4–5 demonstrates how seriously Scripture takes the spiritual and practical leadership of one's household. A man's ability to care for his own household is connected to his ability to care for God's church.

There are therefore seasons when family responsibilities legitimately require us to reduce, pause, or even step away from ministry responsibilities. God, help me to continue cultivating close intimate relationship with you in my quiet time alone with Jesus daily.

That is not necessarily abandoning ministry... cuz ministering to the Lord is our first ministry priority so to speak. He doesn't really need a thing from us, but He inhabits the praises of his people.

Abundant Life, eternal life. That's what he has for you and me.

Sometimes caring faithfully for the people God has already entrusted to you is the smart ministry God has assigned you for.. during this season of life.

GOD'S KINGDOM, NOT OUR PERSONAL KINGDOM

Mark 7:9–13 reminds us again that mere so called religious activity can never be allowed to replace obedience to God in the responsibilities He has actually given to us.

We must never become too busy like Martha.. so busy serving God that we neglect Time alone with the Lord or with the people He has placed directly in our care. Mary had her priorities right sitting at Jesus's feet hearing his word.

She had the peace. Doesn't it look like she had the fruit of the Spirit while Martha had a lot of anxiety with frustration.

The home is not an obstacle to ministry.

The family is not a distraction from discipleship.

The home is one of the primary places where discipleship happens.

Deuteronomy 6:7 gives parents the picture of teaching God's truth throughout ordinary life.

Our children are watching.

Our spouses are watching.

Our friends are watching.. even those who are lost out in the world are watching.

Our coworkers are watching.

And sometimes the most powerful sermon we will ever preach is the victorious life we live in our own home when nobody outside the family is watching.

A Christian home should be a place where grace is practiced, forgiveness is demonstrated, prayer is normal, Scripture is honored, truth is spoken, the anointing breaks the yoke of any bondage, repentance is real, and Christ is very much treasured.

THE PRIORITY THAT HOLDS EVERY OTHER PRIORITY TOGETHER

Ultimately, we are not trying to construct some apparent perfect family hierarchy where narcissism is masked.

We are trying to become faithful followers of Jesus is all.

The question is not merely:

“Who comes first?” We already know it's Christ.

The deeper question is:

“How does my love for Christ teach me to prioritize wholesome love for every person I come in contact with today.. as He has both instructed and has entrusted to me?”

God first. Wife second. Children third.

If I put my kids second what happens when they grow up and move out. A lot of marriages end at that empty nest point.

So with the love that he pours into our hearts, within the home and responsibilities He's given ..and with all the relationships He has entrusted to us, we faithfully love and serve our spouse, children, parents, extended family, brothers and sisters in Christ, neighbors, and the world.. as his representatives.

Sure, sometimes one relationship will immediately demand more attention than another.

That does not mean the others cease to matter.

It means biblical love requires godly wisdom because the worldly type of wisdom will fail you. It will fail your family too, like it's failing out in the world. God and His wisdom won't.

And we do not have to accomplish all of this Walk of victory through our own strength.

God supplies what He commands.

Where God guides he provides, where he leads he feeds, where his finger points. His hand of provision will open for you.

We need..

His daily Strong grace to love our spouse well.

His wisdom to raise our children.

His patience to honor our parents.

His humility to serve the church.

His courage to reach the lost.

His strength to fulfill our responsibilities when we are exhausted, and..

His Spirit to make Christlike love possible.

So don't merely live with your family.

Live for Jesus in front of your family.

Pray with them.

Praise with them.

Listen to them.

Forgive them.

Teach them.

Serve them.

Protect them.

Correct them.

Encourage them.

Look them in the eyes.

Put down the phone.

Turn off the distractions.

Give them your attention while you still have the opportunity.

Because one of the greatest ways to love your family is not merely to give them more material presents, but your presence as you kindly lead them toward Him.

We love them best when we love Him most.. and most consistently.

Listen up and never forget this: when a husband and wife keep turning their hearts toward Christ, they discover something very beautiful that bears repeating no matter how simple this principal is:

The closer they walk with Jesus, the closer they can walk with each other over the Long haul. No matter how long God allows them to be together here.

That is the kind of home that does more than stay together. It makes and impact. It shines a bright light in a dark.. and getting darker kind of world.

It becomes a testimony of the brilliant grace of God!

Courageous Faith Can Beget Courageous Faith.

They were really in love and lived exemplarily. Yes, in spirit (forgiven by God, with fruit, and controlled by the Holy Spirit), in attitudes, in demeanor and in their deeds.

The Bible says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." —Paul, 1 Corinthians 13:4–7

Charlie Kirk's most profound contributions to those of Gen Z was the godly joyous example he set, in word and deed, as a husband, father, political activist and soul-winner for Christ.

He lived all this. So what are some of the things that this couple told young people?

“Having children is more important than having a good career … my kids matter more than how many social media followers I have,” ~ Kirk said three days before his death

"Having a family will change your life in the best ways, so get married and have kids. You won’t regret it."

"Get married.
Have children.
Build a legacy.
Pass down your values.
Pursue the eternal.
Seek true joy."
~ Charlie Kirk

What more did Charlie Kirk say...

1.)

CK: “If you believe in something, you need to have the courage to fight for those ideas - not run away from them or try and silence them.”
Scripture: “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13)
Reflection: Faith in Christ calls us not to retreat when truth is challenged, but to stand boldly and with love. Charlie’s words echo Paul’s reminder that courage is a mark of true discipleship.

2.)

CK: “Never give up, never surrender, and always go for the win.”
Scripture: “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:1–2)
Reflection: Perseverance is the heartbeat of the Christian life. Victory is not about worldly gain but about finishing strong in Christ.

3.)

Quote: “When you deliberately distort and selectively present the truth, you lie.”
Scripture: “Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor.” (Ephesians 4:25)
Reflection: Truth is not relative — it is rooted in God’s Word. Charlie’s conviction reminds us that honesty is a sacred duty for those who follow Jesus.

4.)

CK: “Greatness, on the other hand, requires the liberty and the drive to make the most of yourself.”
Scripture: “To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability… Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them.” (Matthew 25:15,19)
Reflection: The Lord calls us to steward our gifts well. True greatness is found in using our talents faithfully for His glory.

5.)

CK: “One of the most horrifying and surprising evolutions… is the rapid movement away from tolerating opposing ideas and respectful debate.”
Scripture: “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” (2 Timothy 4:2)
Reflection: Even when the world seeks to silence dialogue, debate and discussion, real Christians must be ready to tactfully proclaim God’s truth with patience, courage, and grace. Unless it's your time and God allows the haters to take you out.

For the glory of the Lord, keep on speaking truth in love while you still have breath (blog posts on this):

Erika Kirk Said...

1.)

EK: “He knew that faith was a habit. The more you live it, the more it grows. But know this too, the seed has only just been planted.”
Scripture: “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17)
Reflection: Faith is not static. It grows as we walk with Jesus daily, nourished by His Word.

2.)

EK: “All of you who are already believers, it is your job to shepherd these people. Do not take that lightly. Water the seed of their faith, protect it and help it grow.”
Scripture: “Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight… being examples to the flock.” (1 Peter 5:2–3)
Reflection: Erika’s words carry the heart of a disciple-maker. Every believer is called to encourage and build up others in Christ.

3.)

EK: “Jesus said, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me.’ He said he would be persecuted. He said we would be persecuted.”
Scripture: “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” (2 Timothy 3:12)
Reflection: Suffering is not strange to the Christian. But in carrying the cross, we walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

4.)

EK: “Charlie died far too early, he was also ready to die. There was nothing… he left this world without regrets.”
Scripture: “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21)
Reflection: A life surrendered to Jesus removes the sting of death. Like Paul, Erika testifies that Charlie was prepared to meet the Lord.

5.)

EK: “Women, I have a challenge for you too. Be virtuous. Our strength is found in God’s design for our role. We are the guardians. We are the encouragers. We are the preservers.”
Scripture: “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” (Proverbs 31:25)
Reflection: Godly womanhood is a calling to strength, virtue, and faith. Erika calls women back to the biblical beauty of their design.

6.)

EK: “In our home… I made sure that when Charlie returned from work, it was his sacred landing place away from the worries of the world.”
Scripture: “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.” (Proverbs 14:1)
Reflection: Your home should be a refuge shaped by love and wisdom. Erika’s words reflect Proverbs’ picture of a woman who builds her house in God’s fear.

In Christ, you can live courageously as well.

Like this couple did, come to Christ (individually) on His terms not your own.

Each of the Kirks made the choice to come to Jesus and put Him first. You can right here and now!

Charlie’s bold words and Erika’s steadfastness of faith together became a blessing for so many young people -- may they clearly be echoed to this generation and to the next generation as well.

There are no perfect marriages, but there are some married people being perfected (sanctified) in Christ. Got some questions about how to have a Christ-centered marriage?

You know that marriage is not like a lottery ticket where some luckily win and others lose—no, no.. it is a covenant not to be lightly entered into.

A marriage is to start and stay as a Christ-centered friendship. It's to be prayerfully cultivated, like a nice vineyard that yields fruit only through wise and patient tending. A thriving marriage is not “made in heaven” but it's built on earth, through obedience to the Word of God and daily choices of selfless love and sacrifice.

As Martin Luther observed, “There is no more lovely, friendly, and charming relationship, communion, or company than a good marriage.”

One couple married for fifty years said, “We just never stopped forgiving.”

A forgiven people ought to live as a forgiving people.

Easier said than done, but Jesus can grace you to do what He did.. what Erika decided to do. (Charlie's killer will still face the consequences for his extremely cruel choice. I pray he get's right someday before his life ends).

We're all flawed people. Married life here is about forgiving and staying best friends.

The husband added, “And we never stopped laughing together.”

Love that is patient, kind, not easily provoked, bearing all things. These were not poetic lines to them but daily practices that kept their covenant alive.

Jesus made God’s view unmistakable: “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Matthew 19:6).

Covenant commitment means permanence. It's from a good decision followed up by many good decisions.

Winston Churchill once said wars are not won by evacuation; neither are marriages strengthened by escape routes.

A marriage with divorce as a backup plan will falter, but one rooted in God's word, love, and holy vows becomes resilient through hardship.

Scripture provides the blueprint for you and me. Ephesians 5 teaches/commands husbands to love sacrificially and wives to respect and honor.

When both obey, joy flourishes. Research by the George Barna Group shows couples who pray together daily face less than a 1% chance of divorce, compared with nearly 40% nationally.

D.L. Moody wisely said, “If I wanted to find out whether a man was a Christian, I wouldn’t ask him to tell me his experience. I’d go and ask his wife.”

Yet marriage is also a spiritual battlefield. Paul warns in 1 Corinthians 7:5 that neglect of intimacy opens the door to Satan. Peter exhorts husbands to dwell with their wives in understanding “that your prayers be not hindered” (1 Peter 3:7).

Every quarrel, every silence, can become either a foothold for the enemy or an opportunity for God’s grace.

Elisabeth Elliot once wrote, “The secret is Christ in me, not me in a different set of circumstances.”

Unhappiness alone is not grounds for divorce.

It can be God’s summons to deeper sanctification in a relationship with Christ. Paul, writing Philippians from a Roman cell, spoke of joy sixteen times.

The world's type of happiness fluctuates, but joy in Christ is immovable. As the old lyrics remind us, “The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose, I will not, I will not desert to his foes.”

One husband had confessed, “We were ready to quit. But when we both bowed before Christ and admitted our pride, it was like life came back into our home.” Today, their restored marriage ministers to younger couples making an impact, living proof that reconciliation glorifies God far more than dissolution.

Charlie and Erika were two best friends who prayed together, making an impact in the world, and she still is doing that.

And what if one spouse is not a believer? Scripture still holds out hope. Peter writes that a wife’s respectful conduct may win her husband “without a word” (1 Peter 3:1). Paul tells us the believing spouse sanctifies the home (doesn't save a person, but sets it apart for God's grace to work. 1 Corinthians 7:14). Here, even in mismatched unions, the gospel light can shine.

If you are single then purpose in your heart now to only (so-called) date.. and only marry a growing reborn Christian. Not merely a carnal, religious or worldly Christian. You know one who can voice "Praise the Lord" cuz he's feeling warm to your form. Some people are adept at faking their so-called Christian walk for personal gain. Take your time and be more than sure what God's will is.

God will guide you via his discernment.

Marriage is not only about personal happiness—it is a divine picture of Christ’s covenant with His Church (Ephesians 5). Broken vows fracture (hurt) families and societies alike, but steadfast marriages preach a clear sermon no pulpit can match.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer explained from prison (separated, then martyred. His execution took place in the Flossenbürg concentration camp on April 9, 1945, just weeks before the end of World War II): “It is not your love that sustains the marriage, but from now on, your God-graced marriage that sustains your love.”

So glad I met Liney! I chose to love Liney and I keep choosing her -- she has been such a blessing to me. It's never been hard to love her. Perhaps because we love to casually and earnestly pray about everything together. I say do it His way, according to the Bible. Choose to love Jesus most cuz then you will love each other best.

More can be said, and so I think I will say more on this soon.

C.S. Lewis said it well: “Being in love is a good thing, but it is not the best thing. What will sustain a marriage is the promise, the covenant.” A covenant kept—anchored in Jesus and in Scripture, prayed over again and again in faith, and shaped by Christ-like love—becomes not just a blessing to the couple, but a testimony to a watching, carefully listening world that indeed “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).

Mark 10:9 says, “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Your marriage and sex life can be blessed of God cuz He created you and invented both. Duh!

“When I have learnt to love God better than my earthly dearest, I shall love my earthly dearest better than I do now.” —C.S. Lewis

If marriage doesn't end your selfishness, then selfishness will likely end your marriage.

You know that's what ends them.

If selfishness will keep you and or your "fiancé" from even properly marrying considerately, then that selfishness will undoubtedly end that relationship.

“God created marriage. No government subcommittee envisioned it. No social organization developed it. Marriage was conceived and born in the mind of (an unselfish) God.”  —Max Lucado

Man's love is so small, and God's is BIG. God is love so when you run out of love, just go to Him and ask. He's unselfish and delights to pour His perfect agape love into your heart.

As 1 Corinthians 13 so says, “let all that you do be done in love.”

Fiancé and fiancée -- both words are correct. You know there’s nothin’ wrong at all with bein’ a fiancé if you really are right. What’s destructive - living as a  fiancé in sexual immorality. Now, don’t get mad at me, tryin’ to help you.

It's amazing how many so-called fiancees never marry cuz of selfishness. One so often never has any intention to it says they do cuz of selfishness.

If a farmer's been enjoying free milk for decades, why should he fork over big money (or risk losing money later)..to buy that cow so to speak? Think logically, and be blessed long-term. Don't be unequally yoked with someone selfish and dead inside, or alive and selfish.

Perhaps you’ve got some honest questions about marriage?  What’s even the validity of marriage in today’s world that seems so whack? Or about a marriage ceremony? Be unselfish, there is a timing  for that. Be considerate.

What even constitutes a real marriage? What about wear wedding rings? Are they even needed? We’ve got some -- they’re okay.

If marriage is so difficult, why should I even consider it? I find it can be made easy, but at times challenging cuz I have to say no to my own way and honestly I was born so selfish.

My personal opinions are really no better than the next guy, perhaps worth a nickel. But what does God  the Bible say about selfishness?

What does God in the Bible have to say about a common law marriage? Or about ‘bout gay marriage aka same sex marriage?

What does the Bible say about fornication (sex outside of a man woman marriage)? Is there a difference between fornication and adultery? Yep. What does He say about sexual immorality? Or about about pedophilia / paedophilia which many today have a problem with? What about the practice of a marriage annulment? Is it valid? Does God really have a design for marriage?  What is the purpose of of it - marriage? What about about making a second marriage a real success? Sure, it can happen. You can be blessed, but do it right the first time and be blessed. You know that’s better. How should one  respond to being in a loveless marriage? Sadly there are many of those. Don’t get too busy with other stuff. Where can I find viable solutions for solving marriage problems?

Here’s a tough one. Why would God’s law command a woman who is not a virgin on her wedding night to be stoned to death?

Should Christians attend weddings of those in other faiths? I do cuz they are my friends. We can do that without spiritual compromise.

Why did Jesus choose the wedding at Cana for His first miracle?

How should your wedding be blessed and different from a non-Christian wedding?  What is the meaning of the Parable of the Wedding Feast?

Take all the time you need. Sup with the timing -- is there really a right time for marriage? Are you in a unhappy marriage? My li’l sister was cuz she wanted some kids and found out her lover turned husband did not. She got murdered in her home in South Texas. Miss her a lot.

Should anyone be opposed to marriage equality?

Should a Christian attend the wedding of a gay couple?

What does He have to say about selfish character traits? Can one overcome their sexual sin? Yuuup.

What does it mean to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit (Philippians 2:3)?

What does the Bible say about a selfish abuser? Get away from any abuser--you are God’s property and he REALLY doesn’t want you abused.

What should be different about your marriage, so it will be beautiful for you? Know and love the Lord more than your bff, or lover, or spouse. We love each other best when we know and love Jesus Christ most. You’ve heard it’s kinda like a triangle with you and one corner and your spouse at the other corner and with God at the top corner. The closer you get to God, the closer you will be together. It’s true. Come to...come back to him now.

I want to make my marriage last long - what is the key? Really, a so called key?

“A man doesn’t own his marriage; he is only the steward of his wife’s love.” —Ed Cole

“When a man and a woman give themselves to each other in an act of marital love, they can know the love of Christ as no one else can know it.” —J. Vernon McGee

“There is no more lovely, friendly or charming relationship, communion or company, than a good marriage.” —Martin Luther

Do ya really communicate? Candidly, heart to heart? Do ya really let it go and forgive.. you know, what should be let go of? All of it? “Nothing can bring a real sense of security into the home except true love.” – Billy Graham

Factoid: Did ya know that 80% of divorces in the USA have been unilateral (..wanted by one stubborn person, not to say there hasn't been wrongs done on both sides). You know we’re all flawed people. Some married sadly do make more foolish blunders than others of course. Divorce happens due to the hardening of a heart or two hearts. Don’t allow it.

You don’t learn to fly a play by only studying how to crash one. You don’t learn to win a war by only studying how to retreat well. Please study and apply the Bible on how to love and respect your spouse.

People often say, but our kids are resilient. They can be crushed. How will they know they are loved by any who say they love them?

Young people are now going into a marriage today thinking it probably won’t last, but listen. The dissolution of a marriage is not at all a normal thing to accept. You are loved no matter what by God, and here’s the original plan -- live together in intimacy as long as you live! Yeah, praying, looking to the Lord to meet all your needs.. until death do you part. Stay faithful both upwards and with your spouse. Have fidelity sexually and in all other ways too, like in your mind. Nice looking weddings will happen all the way to the end here, but the One who thought marriage up knows well how to make it work. Prayerfully study His Book to wisely apply.

Far from a good thing, divorce is a real tragedy. God loves divorcees, but really hates divorce. I’m not trying to rub salt into a wound or point a finger of accusation to make people feel bad. There’s zero condemnation for those in Christ.

No fear, running on ahead of your Lord, or foolish haste. He promised to meet your needs so claim his promises for you. Statistics show us that most people do get married at least once. I don’t desire drinks or a marriage that’s on the rocks -- you don’t either.

“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12

“When I have learned to love God better than my earthly dearest, I shall love my earthly dearest better than I do now.” ~ C.S. Lewis

"A good marriage is the union of two good forgivers." ~ Ruth Bell Graham

“Christian marriage is marked by discipline and self-denial. Christianity does not therefore depreciate marriage, it sanctifies it.” ~  Dietrich Bonhoeffer

“Two are better than one because they have a more satisfying return for their labor; for if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and does not have another to lift him up. Again, if two lie down together, then they keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? And though one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.“ Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

“For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh." Genesis 2:24

Need a new beginning -- the best of em all? You can.

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.” – 1 Peter 4:8

Prep now -- smart. You know so called storms come and go to smart and to other couples too -- so live ready.. for anything. Those people attacked, didn’t know they would be. Didn’t know they’d be ripped off or hurt or worse. Choose to live awake with the Holy Spirit edifying, comforting, guiding you daily. Yes, think ahead, ditch your wrong-doin’s. Choose life. Plan thoroughly.. well -- live spiritually well. Too many go it spiritually sick inside and that’s overrated. Think of others ahead of yourself. “Love..always protects.” 1 Cor. 13. .. Fish4souls.org

Opt to be two wise forgivers, that marriage full of heartache can be fully restored.

Peter told us that "Love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8). True. God is love, though love is not God. Fisherman Pete echoes the proverb, "Hatred stirs up strife but love covers all sins" (Proverbs 10:12). Yeah, some think that one person's love can blot out.. wash away another person's sin. True -- Jesus can. Need a new beginning? Inside forgive others and ask. Do you ever pause and pray together for God to meet the needs that you weren’t desired to meet in each other. Aim to meet as many as ya can and pray together.. that’s really the most intimate thing you can do together.

If it’s true, respectful, uplifting, kind, helpful and far from confusing why not just say it anyways.. even though big-tech-social peeps keep taking it down and put you on probation again. Happens to me. Don't care.

Like happened with this simple post earlier.

Ain’t gunna mess with what He did – it’s good. Why should I? He decided, who am I to question it? He knows better. Yeah, I’m good with it -- really ain't as complicated as people make it. Glad that God made men infinitely superior.. in being men. For a good purpose.

Yeah, I feel totally content. Not ashamed 'bout that -- never will be.
"Nos acostamos distantes: entre sueños me ha abrazado", Frutos Soriano #citas
Glad that God made women infinitely superior.. in being women. For a good purpose. Glad He made both.. to worship and glorify Him. I enjoy both the vertical and the horizontal.. the simple love relationship!
Some people complicate what’s good and simple. Yo, when it’s good it’s a foretaste of heaven. For real! It really is.
Think about it. God made a whole lot of things and creatures good.. and we don’t mess with them cuz we know in our knower they are good that way.
Said it was good -- I'm good with that. When it's made right, why tweak it into much confused, complicated and not right? The Bible says...
"And to every beast of the earth and every bird of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth—everything that has the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning— the sixth day." Genesis 1:30-31 (In Christ celebrate what's good -- define what is good cuz some forgot. My wife enjoys doing weddings -- those'll happen until the end of time. Some have asked me to do their wedding, and I've done em in many different locations with her. Even in a church like we did ours).
"Let the Message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other.." Col 3:16 Instagram KurtwVs
In a broken world where much has been broken by man.. there can be regeneration and restoration. There's hope for you. Hey, we've all blown it and sinned in some way (you know that, God's words says so), and none of that gets into heaven. But each can be forgiven -- one day God wants you there with Him. Sure, beats the alternative.. H E double hockey sticks. Want what's really good? Come to Christ today.. just as you are. He is the groom -- turn and trust Him. Nothing beats that. Zero does. Sure, now is best. He can simply empower you to walk as a Christian.

It's dumb to let anyone become better buds with you than your spouse. I'm talking about anyone other than God.

Be closest friends with the God of the Bible and then on the horizontal.. be best friends with your spouse.
If you are a husband with a non-believing wife, then be a really good husband by God’s power. Yes, let God help you be a good witness. Pray hard daily–PHD.
If you are a believing wife with a non-believing husband, then be a godly woman, a decent witness.
Perhaps you are not hitched, but wanting to one day be married. Cool. Start praying for your future spouse now. It’s a good habit to start. You know, be responsible. Apply yourself–apply the word in faith. That will speak volumes to your loved one. Even Christ had a challenging time reaching family members. He prayed and they believed.
Remember.. here are four words..sets of four words.. that that can change your marriage: Whatever you say dear? I am really sorry. Will you forgive me? Here’s my credit card. Make me a sandwich (from a guy : ). “Husbands love your wives.” (four times in 8 verses God tells us guys to love our wives. How? Do it unselfishly like Christ loves His bride the Church). Do “happily ever after” relationships only exist in fairy tales? Nope. Holding on with patient expectation = HOPE!

Make your spouse your second best friend in the universe! No excuses.
1. “Have fun together!  Don’t just do the work together, do the fun together too!  My brother and sister-in-law used to play in a volleyball league together for years while their girls were young.  It was a built-in date night, got them with other friends, and was something they both enjoyed!
2. Get excited about the things they get excited about!  If it isn’t necessarily your ‘cup of tea’, so what!  Try a sip!  You may just like it.  My husband has loved baseball since he was a small boy.  I never watched it much, and quite frankly didn’t think it was too interesting.  But after watching Ken Burn’s documentary on it, learning the roots in American history, hearing about some of the great players and asking LOTS of questions during games, I have learned to love it too!
3. Know their story, their weaknesses, their fears…and love them anyway.  Isn’t that what best friends are for?  Remember our theme verse this month, “A friend loves at all times…” (Proverbs 17:17).  I know I’m particularly hard to love in the mornings (and not very loving myself), but thank God my husband loves me anyway!
4. Make them feel good about themselves!  Would you call someone who only makes you feel worthless and insecure your friend?  Certainly not.  Affirm their best qualities.  Celebrate their wins!
5. Call out the best in them.  One of the blessings of a true best friend is that they can speak the truth to us when no one else will.  Hold each other accountable to be everything God called you both to be.
6. Extend grace and forgiveness.  Even the best of friends have a bad day, say a hurtful things, disappoint us in some way.  Offer the grace in those moments that you’d want in return.  My favorite radio pastor, James MacDonald, says “There are no enduring relationships without forgiveness.”  If you want a friendship that lasts, a marriage that endures, you must forgive both big and small.
7. (On the horizontal plane) Put them first!  Don’t let your spouse just be one of your friends.  Don’t just let your spouse be a best friend.  (after your relationship with God) Make them your most important friend!  Your relationship with your spouse should come before any other relationship in your life, short of your relationship with the Lord.” ~ DANIELLE
