Is it Possible To Legitimately Honor Your Parents Without Losing Your Marriage? Yes, Of Course. Don't Be Silly.

Sure, there's a good balance, believer.

As a flawed parent, I've opted to continue in following Christ cuz that's the smartest thing to do. Not in spite of my failures do I follow Him, not despite the circumstances, but because of my many failures do I follow Him -- and because I love the Lord who has had zero failures.

It's wise for any of us to follow and stay close to Him and His family.

CAN WE LEARN FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF DISHONORING PARENTS? YES.

See EPHESIANS 6:2-3

God commands us to honor our father and mother and promises that a life of respect and obedience brings His favor and blessing.

01. DISHONOR REVEALS A REBELLIOUS HEART INSIDE

Those who reject the authority God placed over them often struggle to surrender to the authority of God Himself.

02. DISHONOR DAMAGES MULTIPLE RELATIONSHIPS

Disrespect, resentment, and contempt can wound the very relationships God designed to nurture and guide us.

03. DISHONOR FORFEITS GOD'S INTENDED BLESSING

God associates honor toward parents with a life that goes well and enjoys His gracious favor.

04. DISHONOR DEVELOPS A PATTERN OF THE WRONG KIND OF PRIDE

A person who refuses parental instruction often rejects wisdom and suffers unnecessary consequences.

05. DISHONOR HURTS AND GRIEVES THE HEART OF GOD

I don't care what your parents did, what you did, what your kids did, what your uncle did, or what your friends did.

I don't even care where you've been.. or who you've been hanging with. You can be changed by God if you want to be.. even if you've tried to change yourself multiple times via sheer willpower and it just didn't work. God can grant you true repentance and saving faith -- He can change you in a nanosecond because of the death of Jesus on the Cross and because of His resurrection. Be born again. #DareToHonorAndBelieveInYourHeavenlyFather

Godly motherhood matters more than ever!

We are grateful -- you do matter, godly mothers!

"Never could it be possible for any man to estimate what he owes to a godly mother." ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Blessed are the merciful! Hey guys, have you done what you need to follow through on in giving honor to God and in showing honor to your mothers as the "priceless, valuable and rare" figures that they are? I say, go for it while you can! Here's what the Lord says about godly mothers/women:
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. - Proverbs 31:25,28
I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. - 2 Timothy 1:5
He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. - Isaiah 40:11
As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem. - Isaiah 66:13
Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. - Psalm 127:3-5
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. - 2 Proverbs 22:6

Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. - Exodus 20:12

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. - Psalm 139:13-14
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. - Proverbs 1:8-9
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. - James 1:17
1. Moms, You’re Not Alone: You are a gift that we are grateful for. Thank you! God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit really loves you mom -- He is always there for you. Stay in touch abiding in the Vine. Get your go from Him. If you feel all alone and lonely, uou don't need to stay that way! Get with Him today. Proactively find a balanced, on-fire, prayerful, warm Bible-based community!
2. Moms, You Are Not Unseen Even On Days You Feel Like It: Mister William Wallace in his famous poem called "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle Is the Hand That Rules the World". It's Mother's Day, so go remind all the older and younger salty godly mothers you know about Christ's powerful influence that comes through them in needy places, Yes, that are making this broken world a better place to live in.
Godly mothers, please listen up. Upwards. Stay in the word. God has a specific will for you. God will honor the sacrifices you’ve made for Him and for your family. Are you a single mother? You too are cherished, you are loved, and you play an essential role in this world gone sideways.. as well as in the Kingdom of God!
‍3. Moms, You Are Blessed In Christ: He'll meet all your needs as in ALL. No fears, no worries, no worldly comparisons, no fears, and no disorientations or woke confusion in the Lord.
Start and end your day in prayer together. Pray all through the day.. not for show.

Personally, I ask a lot of questions (as early as I can, it's better this way) and guess what.. white roses with other white lilies and Saint Ann's Lace are still on top, they never get old for Liney.

Keep in mind how many brand-new mothers' hearts are filled up with great hope and love! Liney was like that. Yes, God made them this way.

God loves mothers! Family still matters to Him like He describes it. He always has, and he always will be like that.

Mothers, words cannot describe how experientially wonderful and joyous it is to know the Father God through his Son, Jesus Christ! Keep on walking with Him and ignore the words of those who keep seeking to pull you down!

Life here can be kind of tough, very challenging, but God gives grace and listens to moms. Yes, to all of us when we call out to Him. He feels compassion for us too. God understands and answers prayer!

He has been the perfect parent and he had a dysfunctional family. Ouch! So many of his creations rebelled and split from Him (and still rebel. Some are even delusional still believing many lies).

The very first son of Eve (the very first human mother) was Cain, the very first murderer. Guilty of fratricide. Her secondborn son was the very first godly martyr named Abel. Can you immaging the pain from him? According to Genesis 4:1, after Cain was born, Eve voiced: “I have gotten a man with the help of the LORD” (esv) or "I have produced a man with the help of the LORD" (nrsv). It would appear from the text that Eve had hoped Cain would be that one promised "seed" who would bring viable solutions and the Ultimate Solution (salvation) here for people.

Factoid: Here's what they've studied and discovered: Every mother has hope. Do you still have love? Every human being has a mitochondrial DNA that goes back to one mother (who wasn't a man that had periods), yes back to one woman.
  • Eve Had a child, and a lot of Hope and Love: She had that dysfunctional hateful pridefully-evil Cain. Read the Bible, she obviously had a whole bunch of unbelieving kids ...and then godly Seth popped up! Praise the Lord for Seth!
  • Scholars say hopeful Eve really thought: Cain was the promised "seed" who would conquer that serpent (Genesis 3:15), but she was sadly mistaken. Have your hopes been dashed by his son heading south spiritually?
You and I know even good words are cheap to speak son. Those are the easy part done, so how do you consistently show love to your mother.. I mean, what she needs to see in an ongoing way and to hear from you? Why don't we ask her!

I've seen and read about some excellent examples -- Liney, the example of Eunice, of Hannah, and of Mary, who lovingly served and sang of her Savior.

Each one of us can say things in a Hallmark card (a good start), but real consistency, time visiting her, supporting her, and warmly showing your appreciation for her maternal sacrifice is more noble yet!

The spiritual impact of godly motherhood through the ages has been incalculable, and the importance of ongoing support, your encouragement, your edifying of her, and your honoring her. Man, praying for mothers now is needed more than ever.

We've been seeing the most vicious treatment of mothers (even in this Western 1st World and oftentimes by strange invading males) of any generation in all of history. The numbers are far greater. It's so wrong! They're not ever to be treated like crazy-mean dogs or any animal ever.

Some Mothers Really Need A Message From Family Who Genuinely Care.. Starting From Member's Lives Well-lived.

Yes, some need to finally hear and see some results from the huge investment they made and keep making!

The Power of Prayer: Please go study the story of Augustine's mother. Godly mothers never stop praying for their children, even when they stray far sway. Even when they really can't take the unfair harsh treatment of their kids another day.

It was the steadfastness of her faith, of her hot tears, and of her dogged perseverance that God responded to by convicting and bringing Augustine of Hippo to faith in Christ.

Think about the most powerful force in many homes is not wealth, intellect, or status, but is God when a mother gets on her knees before Him. Her life shows that persistent prayer, patient faith, biblical wisdom, and sacrificial love can become instruments through which God rescues prodigals and shapes history. Hidden obedience in the home may appear small to the world, yet in God's hands it can influence generations and advance His kingdom far beyond what any mother can presently see.

“She wept for me more than mothers weep for the bodily deaths of their children!” ~ Augustine

Is It  Challenging Like Some "Wonder Woman" Role?: Godly mothers have a very difficult yet rewarding calling that requires prayer, unnoticed service, patience and 24/7/365 selflessness. They wipe butts, mop, mow, and clean toilets for God's sake!

Biblical Motherhood: God highlights for us that children are a "gift and heritage from the Lord" but that doesn't mean do nothing with your kids after they're given to you on loan. Teach them how to . grow and live independantly with the Jesus of the Bible rather than one of their own creation. God calls on mothers to lead by biblical example.

Appreciation over Gifts: While gifts are nice, but mothers need to know they are truly appreciated, loved, respected for their unseen labor of selfless love. After the Fall, Eve came to trust in God and His promise and she demonstrated genuine faith.

1. Eve Believed God’s Promise of Redemption
Immediately after Adam and Eve sinned, God gave the first promise of the gospel:

“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” — God, Gen. 3:15

This verse, often called the Protoevangelium (“first gospel”), foretells that a descendant of the woman would ultimately defeat Satan. Evangelical interpreters widely understand this as the first prophecy of Jesus Christ.

Eve heard this promise directly from God.

2. Eve Was Called “Mother of All Living”
After hearing God’s promise, Adam named his wife:
“Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” — God in the Bible

The name “Eve” (Hebrew Chavvah) is related to “life” or “living.” In the context of impending death because of sin, this name reflects hope in God’s promise of life and redemption.

Matthew Henry observed that Adam’s naming of Eve expressed faith that life would continue through her despite the curse of death.

3. Eve’s Statement at Cain’s Birth Reflects Faith
When her first son was born, Eve said:

“I have gotten a man with the help of the LORD.” — Gen. 4:1

This is the first recorded statement of a woman in Scripture after the Fall, and it explicitly acknowledges the Lord’s help. Some commentators suggest Eve may have wondered whether this son might be the promised deliverer, though the text does not state that directly.
At minimum, her words show:

Recognition of God as the giver of life
Gratitude to the Lord
Dependence upon God

4. Eve Continued Trusting God After Abel’s Murder
After Cain murdered Abel, Eve later said regarding Seth:

“God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Abel.” — Gen. 4:25

Even after devastating grief, Eve acknowledged God’s sovereign provision. This indicates continued trust in the Lord.

5. New Testament Perspective
The Bible notes Eve’s deception and then states that women will continue “in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.” The emphasis is not that motherhood saves, but that faithful perseverance marks genuine spiritual life. Eve’s later statements in Genesis are consistent with such faith.
Conclusion: Was Eve a Woman of Faith? Yes.

Based on the biblical evidence, it is reasonable to conclude that Eve became a believing woman who trusted God after the Fall.

Eve was a real person, a mother with hope in her heart...
  • She heard and evidently embraced God’s promise.
  • She acknowledged God’s help.
  • She recognized God’s provision.
  • She became the mother through whom the human race—and ultimately the Messiah—would come.
  • Scripture does not present Eve as a perfect mother. Her sons included both a murderer and a righteous worshiper. Yet the biblical record gives meaningful indications that she trusted in God’s mercy and lived in hope of His redemptive promise.
“Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.”

Eve’s story reminds us that even those who fall grievously may be restored by God’s grace and become instruments in His plan of redemption.

Wise King Solomon knew who the real mother was when she was willing to give up her own child to the other prostitute who had stole him cuz hers was dead. She rolled over on him in the night and the swished the two kids out in the morning. A mother will sacrifice in love. Our heavenly Father sacrificed His own Son so we could experience life.

Mother, what is your first born like, or other kids like? You still have hope? Hope is to be had in the first Adam - Christ!

Again, think about the first mother and her heart filled with love and hope after receiving her firstborn son. It was Cain who was a murderer. The second born of Eve was the first martyr in history - Able. Lots of kids! Then Eve experienced rest.had Seth and he was godly.

Some kids easily voice: "I'm sorry" over and over again on different months, but refuse to actually change any like they say.

Bottom line, those words of sorry sound really good but are 100% wothless. Learn and stop sinning. Others never ever say or show that, or "I love you. Thanks mom. Apart from your kind encouragement mom with the phone and text niceities, and talk of garden, rain or cats, what do you really want to see from my life, mom?"

Who had some spiritual kids that made an impact?

Henrietta Mears was one of the most influential Christian educators in modern evangelical history. As Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood (often called Hollywood Presbyterian Church), she taught thousands of young adults and personally discipled hundreds who later entered full-time Christian ministry.

Henrietta Mears was a spiritual mother whose Bible teaching, discipleship, and vision helped shape many of the men and women who, in turn, shaped twentieth-century evangelical Christianity.

Who Were Some Significant Leaders She Influenced

Billy Graham

Founder of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Mears helped Graham resolve his doubts about the authority of Scripture at Forest Home Ministries shortly before the 1949 Los Angeles Crusade that launched his worldwide ministry.

Bill Bright

Founder of Cru. Bright was deeply mentored by Mears; he and his wife Vonette Bright even lived in her home for years while building the ministry. Bright said, “No one has influenced my life more than Dr. Mears.”

Dawson Trotman

Founder of The Navigators, a ministry emphasizing Scripture memory, personal discipleship, and evangelism worldwide. Mears was a close ministry associate and major influence.

Jim Rayburn

Founder of Young Life. Rayburn adopted Mears’s passion for reaching young people with a clear gospel message.

Bob Pierce

Founder of World Vision International and Samaritan's Purse. Her teaching helped shape his burden for suffering children worldwide.

Richard Halverson

Later served as Chaplain of the United States Senate and was one of her devoted protégés.

Louis Evans Jr.

Founding pastor of Bel Air Presbyterian Church and a nationally respected expositor.

Donn Moomaw

Became pastor of Bel Air Presbyterian Church and spiritual advisor to Ronald Reagan.

F. Dale Bruner

Renowned New Testament commentator, especially on Matthew and John.

Vonette Bright

Co-founded Cru and launched the National Day of Prayer Task Force.

What Ministries Were Indirectly Shaped Through Her Influence

Through the people she discipled, God used Henrietta Mears to shape:

  • Cru
  • The Navigators
  • Young Life
  • World Vision International
  • Billy Graham Evangelistic Association
  • Gospel Light
  • Forest Home Ministries

And Why Her Ministry Was So Powerful

Henrietta Mears did not build her influence primarily through preaching in stadiums. She faithfully taught the Bible verse by verse, and believed deeply in the authority of Scripture. She prayed fervently, and she intentionally discipled young adults one by one. She lived the life illustrating 2 Timothy 2:2:

“What you have heard from me… entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

She invested in a few, and God multiplied her influence to millions around the world.

Her Direct Ministerial Impact

  • Over 400 men and women entered full-time Christian service through her ministry.
  • Many became founders of global ministries.
  • Through those ministries, hundreds of millions have heard the gospel.

Billy Graham

"Apart from my wife and mother, no woman had a greater influence on my life than Henrietta Mears."

Bill Bright

“No one has influenced my life more than Dr. Mears.”

Richard Halverson

“Henrietta Mears was the giant of Christian education.”

A good example! Henrietta Mears stands as a remarkable example of how one faithful Bible teacher, grounded in the Word of God and committed to discipling others, can profoundly influence generations. She never pastored a large congregation in the formal sense, yet by teaching Scripture and mentoring young believers, she helped shape many of the most significant evangelical leaders and ministries of the twentieth century.

Listen, God can use you! Do you say that you love the Lord? The Bible truthfully teaches that you'll never ever be close to him, or in live in harmonious connection with Christ, unless you also love his flawed bride.

Take heed to what the Word teaches. The Lord is very faithful to 100% fairly repay all those who cause hurt to others.. especially to their own moms.

We all can disagree on gobs (other than the Essentials). Yes, we can study but disagree on a whole lot of very basic non-Cardinal truths and stay in fellowship with each other, Christian. But let's always agree on the very basic stuff that so, okay. That seems smart! We will honor our parents this way!

"How can two walk together, except they be agreed?"

That's a rhetorical question above. Amos 3:3 basically tells us that any good and true partnership, family harmony, and progress with any kind of relationship—whether with God or with others—requires a shared direction, humility, care, a good purpose with an alignment of good values. (Wise sources do matter. ie, Bible).

Amos implies that walking together is absolutely impossible without maintaining some unity about what's so ..at least regarding Bible basics. Read more on motherhood...

Sure, ALL parents are imperfect (you too), but God is good and godly mothers are so So SO valuable! They are to be loved instead of repeatedly grieved or wounded by relatives.

God's 100% got your godly mother's back as she prays for you. I know she'd love to see you on the other side of His Great White Throne Judgment bar.

Yes, He'd very much like that too cuz He's mad about you, not mad at you. Cuz of the Cross God ain't mad at sinners or saints.

Do you have some real trauma from your home life?

Do you have Christian parents? They have feelings too. No matter who you are, you and your buds, or school counselors, none of us are your mother's Judge. Help her please as she walks with her Savior. You want closeness right, so why shoot yourself in the food so to speak? No son or daughter will ever enjoy any closeness with their Christian dad if they continue to despise or harshly treat (hurt) his bride!

Let go of all women-hate and that  diminishing of your mothers, which is so prevalent in this Woke and Cancel and "Cut-off culture." It needs to be ditched; all the Christian and Jew hatred needs to be repented of. Let go of all those accusations against your mom have got to go!

The Bible teaches us that Satan and his thugs are the deceiving, hateful accusers of the brethren. I mean that pointing of the finger. Mr LuCifer hatefully does that not to assist, yep, just like the Pharisees of old and of today often did. He has only come to steal, kill and destroy. He and Pharisee types are the same yesterday, today and forever.

It and all the condemnation simply needs to go away from you ..forever. Forgive your parents; it's a choice. Forgive God, who never did you any wrong. Jesus cares and intercedes for us

So, going forward, live free in the Son. Choose to love people you've neglected or hurt. Make a firm decision now to come down on the right side of history, instead of the wrong side.

Q: Are you going to line yourself up with:  the accuser or with the Intercessor (who is Christ). Pray earnestly for your flawed parents, for godly women, and even for her kids.. for your kids.

"If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. But if you look at Christ, you’ll be at rest." ~ Corrie Ten Boom

"The power of a mother's prayers with all her children kneeling around is far greater than any public ministry.” ~ Charles H. Spurgeon

Marriage and motherhood today with the ladies are just as valid as they ever were! God thought it all up, this union where selfless-caring-friendship can indeed be learned and cultivated instead of with that ugly selfishness of this corrupt and twisted world system. See Phil. 2:3-4 and S. of S.

Real facts > Real feelings

The former are your friends - facts are! Yes, real facts (like all those found in the Bible), over feelings you have, should really matter!

It's amazing how often the kindhearted, incredible godly mother in my home (my wife, and is not my mother) has gotten caught in an outright... truth! Has gotten caught red-handed in a "conspiracy theory that was true. Sure, she had facts on it, yet that doesn't always register with her occasional accusers/attackers.

God is the powerful One. He empowers believers for witnessing, and prayer is the way we tap in but he remains Lord not us.

"Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord'". Romans 1219

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy" Matthew 5:7.

The USA needs a 5th Great Awakening spawning PASSIONATE evangelistic revival (He's done 4 before), and this 5th beatitude of Jesus as well.

Mercy, yes and what's better than mere empathy! What we've seen at two borders is suicidal empathy -- it was killing our nation, the USA and others. Real love doesn't always give freebies away to countless people that want to destroy our nation and us. Compassion starts on two knees. Yes, compassion starting in the home is far better than empathy because compassion speaks and acts appropriately to address the need right.

"In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success." Proverbs 3:6

Would ya like some wisdom from Proverbs for parenting?

Was asked to address this topic, and man, I have a lot to learn still!

Didn't really feel like it, but the verses do edify. Need some godly wisdom for parenting.. or for being a grandparent? Ask and inquire of the Lord for this.

Solomon did that and received. God is so generous huh! What did King Solomon (second to Jesus the wisest man who ever lived here) say? He said, “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him” (Psalm 127:3 nlt). Our limited time with the children here -- that is such a gift to us from God. Liney and I really enjoyed this period.

Children are not.. never were or are.. ours to possess; they really belong to the Lord. We put our kids in His hands and then did what we could. Doing our best we commit the rest.

And we seek to do everything we can to tactfully, to wisely and gently, yes...and to boldly point them back to Him. They are His. That's what straightforward responsible parents see and do. Children are not really ours to mold, but to hold (for a time) and to let em unfold. Why? So that they each can lean towards the light they see and discover the unique individual that God created them to be. God is light with zero darkness in Him.

Let's biblically (very wisely) walk in the light of the Lord. Think about in how many arenas ..like in a family, in a small group, on a jobsite, in a church, or at a school.. where things have been done in the name of the Holy Spirit led me when it just wasn't right or of the light at all.  How many of us Christians (oftentimes with the best of intentions) have been guilty of presumptuously misrepresenting Him or missing His lead?

"Always keep on praying.  No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.  Do not smother (grieve, quench [in Grk: sbennymi]) the Holy Spirit." 1 Thessalonians 5:17-19 tlb

"Don’t suppress the Spirit, and don’t stifle.." msg (See context).

He's all about righteous light, love and truth - so what does it mean to grieve and quench the Holy Spirit?

We are not to teach our children to become dependent on us or on the Government.. for the rest of their lives, but to live independent–and more importantly–to live completely dependent upon God through Christ.

Too many children are left to raise themselves, It's been a long time like this, and then many grow up and ditch the people who love them. So many parents aren’t raising their kids; our culture is raising our kids today. The media is raising our kids. I heard (and am not sure if it's true..) that the ADD and ADHD comes from parents letting the TV long babysit their kids with all the fast images before they reach the age of around five years old.

Movies, and Hollywood stars are giving our children their values and morals. Bands with their often cool sounding music are giving them their belief system—or their peers or teachers at school. Then many of them go off to universities and get molded by the liberal Socialist world system some more.

This ought not to be. Parents, please don't let the culture raise your kids.

What's the parent’s task? Livin' the life before them, teaching them what's so in love. It's also not the job of any Sunday school teacher to raise your children in God’s ways, parents.

They are they simply to reinforce what you’re already teaching and doing in the home. They are there to support you in what the Word is leading you to do as Christian parent. Are you a born again spiritually mature Christian parent today? You can be. You're going to need all the sound help you can get, parent.

Do your children attend a Christian school or are they homeschooled? (Man, I never had to give our three kids this type of education but I totally respect the many parents who are doing this today).

Church and children's church are not there to relieve you of your God given responsibility as parents.. to bring your children up in the nurture, admonition and way of the Lord.

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Eph. 6:1-4 esv

God will hold each of us parents accountable one day. Always wanted to be ready for that. He can empower you to live the life as a decent example before your family, believer. What are you doing with this important responsibility, dads? It isn’t optional. It is hard to believe sometimes, but even the dearest li'l child has a sinful inclination inside. The world, the society, and the devil don't make people sin -- we could do that without these around because we are sinners. The Bible says that we are born with a natural inclination to do wrong. Mr. Lu-Cifer (Satan) is the prince of the power of the air and His creepy world system of corruption just bombards us here with temptations to sin. Let's love God and people, and not love the world system!

What does Ephesians 2:2 mean in terms of how much power Satan possesses?
What does the Bible say about angels? What does the Bible say about demons? Who is Satan?
What really is the meaning of Ephesians 1:19–20?
Unpack that, break that down for us--the meaning of Ephesians 1:4?

David wrote, “For I was born a sinner—yes, from the moment my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5 nlt). Sin is not a learned behavior; it is an inbred disposition. You and I were born in sin. Children get it from their sinner parents to be frank, who got from their sinner parents, who got it from their sinner parents—all the way back to Adam and Eve who sinned in a perfect environment cuz they gave in to temptation.

Factoid: We are not sinners because we sin; we sin because we are sinners. And it happens to our children too. Choices matter.

Did I say to my three sons or grandkids: "Hey Buckeroos, gather around and let’s start with sin and selfishness today. So say after me: 'MINE! NO, M I N E!!!'”

I never said that to them and my dad, Kim, never said that to me, or to my two brothers and sister.

It came out so naturally for each of them. MINE! Gimme, it's MINE!!!

My sons already knew that word. We each be sinners, but we can become forgiven saved sinners. Not better than, but indeed better off.

It's great to teach our children good manners, respect of others, and to become hard smart workers, but first and foremost we are to point them to the Jesus Christ of the Bible. It ain't wrong to pray with them over their needs and wants, and simply get them into the Bible when they're young. My boys would say yes to times of family devotions and they all gladly had something to say. Many good things to say and pray!

I know that our tendency as parents is to protect our children and isolate them from this mean ole world. And of course, we want to protect them from all the impure rainbow stuff being shoved on them. I still want to be a godly positive influence in their lives as well as their kid's lives. But we also must prepare them to live in the real world and take a stand for what is right. Who wants to see their kids or their kids getting ripped off?

Worldly influences will do their best to find their way into areas of their education and lives no matter what state they live in (Satan and his thugs will try to make sure of this). Your kids are going to talk to other kids and be shown their cell phones. They will be exposed to all kinds of things in public. We can’t keep the kids away from these things 24/7/365 -- I'm not omnipresent like God is, seeing everything.

Rather than seeking to isolate your children from all these bad influences, try to positively prepare them for how to deal with what they will face. Teach them how to sprint away from some things and from temptations. That's exactly where your godly influence needs to comes in as you point them to Christ, and call out to God, and keep pointing them in the right direction.

Have you felt like a failure as a parent because you have one or more prodigal sons or daughters guess what..  God the Father has some of these as well. Think of all they heartache and pain he's felt through the years. He can comfort and encourage you. Keep on praying, it ain't over until it is over! There is an easy way to learn by readying the Word, and there is still a hard way to learn as well. I remember choosing the hard way to learn when I was younger. They are simply exercising something called free will. So earnestly pray for them and keep the lines of honest communication open in order to show them love. Sure, even when you don't feel like. Have they basically been spitting on you and all your relatives. Sinners like you and me did that to our heavenly Father. He showed us love when we were still His enemies. He is the Initiator and I am the responder. I love him today because He first loved me.

What did Moses say about raising children? This! “Repeat [God’s commands] again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up” (Deut. 6:7 nlt).

Is that talking about quantity time, not quality time? When you are around your children, take every opportunity possible to instruct them in the word and ways of the Lord.

How can you help them, what's a good first step? Have a relationship with God through Christ. Have an assurance inside that you are right with your Father. You cannot lead a child any further than you have come, especially spiritually.

Walk with God regardless of what they do. The apostle Paul wrote, “Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me – everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you” (Phil 4:9 nlt).

It is hard to train children in a way that parents don’t go themselves.

“The secret of home rule is self-rule, first being ourselves what we want our children to be.” ~ Andrew Murray

We need to prepare our children asap and be patient, because we never know how long they will be on load with us. We have no idea when they could go, or when we could go, or what course life may take. We want to do everything that we can to point our kids to Jesus and a healthy church the teaches His Word while we can.

“Children are not casual guests in our home. They have been loaned to us temporarily for the purpose of loving them and instilling a foundation of good values on which their future lives will be built.” ~ James Dobson

In many realms of our lives, we need to wisely balance courtesy and control, love and discipline, grace and truth. Never one lie, never mean spirited. Sure, didn't Christ our flawless example live like this? The heavenly Father does this too. Totally fair and just but loving. God is love, God is light with no darkness in Him.

As a husband and dad, this has always been my aim at work and at home.

"And the Word (the living Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we [actually] saw His glory, glory as belongs to the [One and] only begotten Son of the Father, [the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, who is] full of grace and truth (absolutely free of deception)." John 1:14 amp

Each Child Is Uniquely Formed by God So Raising Them Exactly The Same Doesn’t Make Sense.

"Love" for your spouse or kids is spelled TIME. Time to listen, time for full attention, time for family devotions where all can be honest and not be looked down upon.

“A boy or girl who knows that love abounds at home will not resent their well-deserved punishment.  One who is unloved or ignored will hate any form of discipline.” ~ James Dobson

What to bless your kids, men? Love your wife, their mom. A marriage succeeds only as a lifetime commitment that’s not based on fickle feelings that come and go.. with no escape clauses.

If the home is going to survive, the home will do so by properly prioritizing. Yes, it can actually happen as husbands and fathers again place their Lord first as the main focus of loving worship, and then on the horizontal plane place their wives and then their families at the highest level on their system of priorities.

When you blow it and mess up, just admit it and quit it. Repent, ask God for forgiveness (ask the people you hurt for that as well), get back up and press on. Run your race to win.

Does the Bible say anything about grandparents?

“By learning to yield to the loving authority.. of his parents, a child learns to submit to other forms of authority which will confront him later in his life like his teachers, school principal, police, neighbors and employers.” ~ James Dobson

One of the first things you and your fiancé need to develop is a meaningful humble prayer life. Yes, before the wedding and before the sex-life starts (no need to test-drive em, Barney) and before starting your family life together. It doesn't matter the physical posture of prayer really as long and you're being sincere, respectful and candid in Jesus' Name. My wife, Liney, and I did that and we still enjoy praying alone and together regularly. The time we have spent on our knees has been the stabilizing factor throughout nearly forty years of marriage--it's the Lord who helps us, not some verbal formula. I say read the word together and pray biblical prayers reminding God of His promises and His own words. Get in this habit because your kids and grandkids will benefit and thank Him latter on.

Never let the culture squeeze you into it's weird mold. That's not healthy. Never let "too busy" for God, or too busy for a healthy church with sound worship, Bible teaching and fellowship, or too busy for each other become your habit of life. Why crash and burn? Never let striving in the flesh or the foolish kind of debt and financial strain become what you daily have to deal with. It's no day for idols, Sport. It is the day to turn and trust.. to run to Jesus and ditch all of them.

"And do not be conformed to this world any longer with its superficial values and customs, but be transformed and progressively changed as you mature spiritually by the renewing of your mind focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes, so that you may prove for yourselves what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect in His plan and purpose for you." Romans 12:2 amp

“What is the biggest obstacle facing the family right now? It is over-commitment; time pressure. There is nothing that will destroy family life more insidiously than hectic schedules and busy lives, where spouses are too exhausted to communicate, too worn out to have sex, too fatigued to talk to the kids. That frantic lifestyle is just as destructive as one involving outbroken sin. If Satan can't make you sin, he'll make you busy, and that's just about the same thing.” ~ James Dobson

Personally, I'm not raising my grandkids or kids today. Glad about that. I want to wisely spoil my grandkids -- I feel it's my duty to.. as long as I'm not really spoiling them character-wise. I want to give them fun things they'll like even with some foods (that are allowed) and then hand them back to their diligent parents. That's the beautiiiiness of being a grandparent!

Today, my job is done in many ways here, but I can pray and be there for my sons and grandkids if they ask for some help or say some advice. They can find great advice in a lot of places and churches really.

Unlike many parents that we feel for.. somehow Liney and I succeeded in raising hardworking sons to live independently (glory to God..). So we are careful not to interject our parenting opinions when not invited to do that (not as easy as rollin' off a long). Have I ever done that before? I have at times with the Scriptures, but now I let others do that instead because I think my child-rearing days are behind me (except that we have ministered some in children's church lately).

I'm not daily raising my grandkids. Have never had to do that, so I really doubt I'll discipline or spank any grandchild. Why should I, they have their parents to find their right way in this area?

There are some smart compromises in marriage relationships, but spiritual compromise is never smart for any couple or family.

“It is very important to understand that pluralism is part of our system. We don't all think the same thing and part of our strength is that we come from different perspectives. We have to respect one another even when we disagree with each other. There has to be a spirit of tolerance for the views of others, while also being deeply committed to the (essential) positions we hold. If we do that, I think we can coexist and learn to love each other better.” ~ James Dobson

The Christian parents real early need to be on the same page and they need to win when there is push back and negotiations from the kids. Just make sure that what you unify over and win on is worthy of winning on.

Respect is intended to operate on a two-way street. Show your spouse honor and respect at all times--back them up. Kids like to play one parent off of another. Please show them how unified you'll remain and teach your children to show respect.

“Loving discipline encourages a child to respect other people and live as a responsible, constructive citizen.” ~ James Dobson

It's no day for allowing the drag-queen shows, or drag reading hours, or all the grooming in our kid's schools. Something must be said and done to protect the minds of your family members.

“It is my view that our society can be no more stable than the foundation of individual family units upon which it rests. Our government, our institutions, our schools.. indeed, our way of life are dependent on healthy marriages and loyalty to the vulnerable little children around our feet.” ~ James Dobson

When your children grow and walk in wisdom, parents, then guess what.. they bring JOY to your hearts (See Proverbs 10:1; 15:20; 17:21, 25; 19:26; 23:24–25). It is so very tragic when children fail to show respect towards their parents (23:22; 30:17), or when they speak evil of their parents (20:20).

Need some parenting memory verses from Proverbs?

"Listen to your father, who sired you, and do not despise your mother when she is old. 23 Buy truth, and do not sell it; get wisdom and instruction and understanding. 24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, and he who sires a wise child will have joy in him. 25 Let your father and your mother be glad, and let her who gave birth to you rejoice [in your wise and godly choices]." Proverbs 23:22-25 amp

“11 There is a generation (class of people) that curses its father and does not bless its mother. 12 There is a generation (class of people) that is pure in its own eyes, yet is not washed from its filthiness. 13 There is a generation (class of people)—oh, how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are raised in arrogance. 14 There is a generation (class of people) whose teeth are like swords and whose jaw teeth are like knives, to devour the afflicted from the earth and the needy from among men. 15 The leech has two daughters, “Give, give!” There are three things that are never satisfied, four that do not say, “It is enough”: 16 Sheol, and the barren womb, earth that is never satisfied with water, and fire that never says, “It is enough.” 17 The eye that mocks a father and scorns a mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out, and the young vultures will devour it.” Proverbs 30:11–17 (sometimes I like to leave the vs number in)

"A wise son heeds and accepts [and is the result of] his father’s discipline and instruction, But a scoffer does not listen to reprimand and does not learn from his errors." Proverbs 13:1 amp

"He who withholds the rod [of discipline] hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines and trains him diligently and appropriately [with wisdom and love]." Proverbs 13:24 amp

"A [flippant, arrogant] fool rejects his father’s instruction and correction, But he who [is willing to learn and] regards and keeps in mind a reprimand acquires good sense." Proverbs 15:5 amp

"Discipline your children while you still have the chance; indulging them destroys them." Proverbs 19:18 msg

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6 nkjv

"Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of correction will drive it far from him." Proverbs 22:15 nkjv

"Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. 14 You shall beat him with a rod, and deliver his soul from hell." Proverbs 23:13–14 nkjv

"Discipline your son and he will give you happiness and peace of mind." Proverbs 29:17 tlb

"Correct your son, and he will give you rest; yes, he will give delight to your soul." Proverbs 29:17 nkjv

"My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; 2 For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you." Proverbs 3:1–2 nkjv

"Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding; 2 For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law. 3 When I was my father’s son, Tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, 4 He also taught me, and said to me: 'Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live.'" Proverbs 4:1–4 nkjv

“My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart.” Proverbs 4:20-21

"My son, be attentive to my wisdom; incline your ear to my understanding, 2 that you may keep discretion, and your lips may guard knowledge." Prov. 5:1–2 esv

"My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not your mother's teaching. 21 Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck. 22 When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you." Prov. 6:20–22 esv

"My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you; 2 keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; 3 bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart." Prov. 7:1–3 esv

When on-fire fathers, mothers, and families together worship the Jesus of the Bible, as well as help others in need guess what.. this is well pleasing to God.

Smart dads working together with the moma-bears (and don't mess with them foolish state legislatures and others), they're a powerful team!

It's what we just saw happen in Virginia -- their teamwork.
Prayerful teamwork with the moms and dads pushing back the evil in the Land, and in schools... is powerful. The Restrainer here, and the salt of the earth people, are still working together (with their families in mind).
BTW: Here's a challenge for you. Men, go through the book of Proverbs each month, (one chapter per day). And through the Psalms too, (5 per day).. not excluding the other books. The Psalms of course help you go vertical in worship, and the proverbs help you know how to wisely act on the horizontal plane.. with other people.
Think and "act like men".. men (God said that). Choose to fear God, to know, and fully trust in Him too. In connection with a healthy Bible teaching church and small group. After these Covid days people will see how radically important Christ centered small groups really are.
Am grateful for my parents and all the good things they've taught. Listen, teach your kids and grandkids to fear and walk close with the Lord as well (like the great men of all history did, like if your kids don't or won't with their kids), and to lean into Him, rather than "unto their own understanding" apart from the word." To prayerfully fill their minds with Bible truth and wise applications cuz it goes the distance forever. They're each just one phone chick away from hellish-weirdness today.
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5

When spiritual, no-spiritual-compromise born again fathers, mothers, and families together worship the Jesus of the Bible, as well as help others in need guess what.. this is well pleasing to God.

“Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to .And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God” Hebrews 13:15

"We must obey God rather than men." ~ Peter, Acts 5:29
Fact: Fools don't and won't see things from God's perspective (that's what God's wisdom is all about juxtaposed to the wisdom of the world), but you indeed can see from his perspective if you want to!
I believe this.. As the men see and go, so goes this nation. And as America goes, so goes the world. And I'm not talkin' about the world's corrupt system here, which will never go as wise people go. So listen up to your Father, think and say and do as He did and is doing...four fingers pointing back at me.

My parents love to talk about how they surrendered their lives to, and by faith came to know Christ after decades of partying. They've both been helping and ministering to former drunks ever since this time.

I was chatting with my mom today and I asked her (Elizabeth Ellen aka Betty) a good question.. "Mom, do you call yourself an alcoholic just so you can go to the AA meetings with dad and speak? Is this your preventative medicine of sorts, and way to share your faith?"

She responded ..at what point does the cucumber become the pickle?.. and after it's a pickle it can't go back to becoming a cucumber again. She said she probably did cross the line with her drinking too much with my dad into becoming an alcoholic but she isn't 100% sure. She likes to be with him at the meetings.

She said that her own dad John F. Beck was one of nine wealthy kids and five of them died from alcoholism. They all as adults had beautiful homes fancy exotic cars, beautiful spouses and kids ..and then lost it all because of drinking.

Her uncle Bill got sober though, but Bob, Fred, Kate, and her aunt Betty died from it.

Yeah, Kate at age 50-something died too. Bob drove off a cliff in Wisconsin accidentally. My mom says that her aunt Kate was a lot like her when she was young, "always raising hell."

Their mom was 100% Irish from the Cudahy family, very rich, but sadly drinking was socially acceptable with the family.. too much to their family's lasting hurt.

Life here seems so brief to me, it goes by so quick and fleeting to me. Listen, please savor every moment with Jesus as your Lord.. in practice not just in theory or religiously like (it's a lifetime and daily goal for each of us). There's so much for me to learn. He will use you to share the Gospel and your own story of faith with others.

Dads, moms, parents.. live for the Lord. Drive far around and away from the bars and drinking parties. Get rid of the stored bottles -- those with the drinking and all haven't helped anyone. Man, personal convictions from the Lord, and daily decisions and habits, and prayers of faith said together with ..and over the kids, and choices of who the close friends will be (with their influence and all their habits too that can influence).. are all so important to take into account.
