What Is Condemn-able? Pride Is. It's what turned Lucifer into Perverse Satan and Got Him kicked out of Heaven?

Hey, we're all sinners who have hurt God, and some sins are more destructive than others. Pride is the root. Why glorify or cling to what destroys people? In the major English translations, references involving pride, proud, arrogance, arrogant, haughty, and boasting occur well over 100 times, with the Book of Proverbs containing the highest concentration of warnings. Pride as a root of rebellion against Authority is one of humanity's most dangerous sins because it elevates self and diminishes dependence upon God.

"It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels."
C. S. Lewis:
"Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next man."
Andrew Murray:
"Pride must die in you, or nothing of heaven can live in you."

There is A Sin God Opposes: Pride.
There is an Understanding of Pride and of the Beauty of Humility
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble" (James 4:6).
That single sentence helps explain why Scripture speaks so strongly against pride. Throughout the Bible, pride is never treated as a harmless personality trait or a minor character flaw. It is portrayed as a serious spiritual danger because it subtly shifts our attention away from God and places it upon ourselves.
That is why Proverbs 16:18 solemnly warns:
"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."
The Bible contains many similar warnings, but an important question remains: What exactly is the pride God condemns?
After all, is it sinful to feel grateful for a job well done? Is it wrong to appreciate the fruit of diligent labor? Is every sense of satisfaction in our work automatically prideful?
To answer those questions, we must first distinguish between self-exaltation and grateful stewardship.
The pride God hates is described in Proverbs 8:13:
"Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverted mouth, I hate."
God is not condemning honest gratitude for what He has enabled us to do. He is condemning the arrogant attitude that seeks glory for self while forgetting the God from whom every blessing comes.
Jesus said:
"Apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5).
That statement strikes at the very heart of pride. Every breath we take, every ability we possess, every opportunity we enjoy, every success we experience, and every good thing we accomplish ultimately traces back to God. We are not self-made people. We are God-made people.
A scene from the film Evan Almighty illustrates this truth well. Before going to sleep, Evan thanks God for his house. At first glance, that may seem unnecessary because he worked hard to earn the money to purchase it. Yet Evan recognizes something deeper. The house exists because God created the materials from which it was built. Evan exists because God created him. Neither the worker nor the work would exist apart from the Creator.
That is the difference between sinful pride and godly gratitude.
Sinful pride forgets God.
Humility remembers Him.
Sinful pride takes the credit.
Humility gives thanks.
Sinful pride says, "Look what I have done."
Humility says, "Look what God has graciously allowed me to do."
Is there a misunderstanding about pride itself? Yes.
Anything worthwhile that was accomplished through our lives -- it was made possible by God with his grace. He supplied the wisdom. He supplied the strength. He opened the doors. He sustained us every step of the journey.
Have you worked diligently and accomplished something good? Have you sacrificed and persevered in the will of God? Glad!
Does God need our efforts in order to accomplish His purposes? Certainly not. We can't earn any of his blessings ..not even salvation.
Scripture consistently reveals that God delights to work through willing servants -- we cooperate and work with Him as our Leader. He invites us into His work. He allows us to participate in what He is doing on earth.
As Jesus declared:
"Apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5).
Yet Paul could also write:
"By the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me" (1 Corinthians 15:10).
Notice the beautiful balance. Paul neither denied God's grace nor denied his labor. He acknowledged both. His effort mattered, but God's grace was the source.
True humility is not pretending we have accomplished nothing.
True humility is recognizing Who made every accomplishment possible.
This truth becomes even clearer when we consider the origin of pride itself.
If Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:12-17 are understood as containing symbolic references to Satan's fall, then pride stands at the center of that rebellion.
Satan was created by God.
His beauty came from God.
His abilities came from God.
His position came from God.
Yet instead of reflecting God's glory, he sought to possess it.
Instead of worshiping God, he wanted worship for himself.
He wanted the crown without acknowledging the King.
This is the essence of pride.
Pride is not merely thinking highly of yourself.
Pride is forgetting that everything admirable about you is ultimately a gift from God.
Pride takes the spotlight that belongs to God and turns it toward self.
Humility recognizes that we are not the source of the light. We are merely reflections of it.
This is why Paul's question in 1 Corinthians 4:7 is so penetrating:
"What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?"
The answer, of course, is nothing.
Every talent is received.
Every opportunity is received.
Every spiritual gift is received.
Every blessing is received.
Every accomplishment is received.
Therefore, there is no room for self-glorification.
There is only room for gratitude.
The Apostle John identifies another expression of pride when he speaks of "the pride of life" in 1 John 2:16:
"For all that is in the world, the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life, is not from the Father but is from the world."
The pride of life is the relentless desire to elevate self. It is the craving for recognition, admiration, status, superiority, and self-importance. It seeks significance apart from God and satisfaction apart from submission to Him.
We first encounter this temptation in Eden.
Genesis 3:6 tells us that Eve saw that the forbidden fruit was:
"Good for food."
"A delight to the eyes."
"Desired to make one wise."
Is there a biblical list of sins--what's the chief sin? Living your whole like and rejecting God's sinless Son (that's the unforgivable sin).
What about mortal and venial sins -- are all of em equal to God?
There we find the same three temptations John later describes: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.
The serpent's promise was seductive:
"You will be like God" (Genesis 3:5).
At its core, pride longs to occupy a place that belongs only to God.
It whispers that independence is freedom.
It suggests that self-rule is wisdom.
It persuades us that fulfillment can be found apart from submission to our Creator.
But every time, the promise proves empty.
The same temptations confronted Jesus in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). Satan appealed to physical appetite, worldly splendor, and public display. Yet Christ answered every temptation with the Word of God.
Where Adam failed, Christ prevailed.
Where Eve believed the lie, Christ proclaimed the truth.
Where pride seeks exaltation, Jesus embraced obedience.
Though He was the eternal Son of God, He humbled Himself.
Philippians 2:8 says:
"He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."
The One who had every right to exalt Himself chose humility.
And because of that, He is our perfect example.
The pride of life remains one of Satan's most effective weapons. It appears in countless forms: the hunger for recognition, the need to be right, the desire to control others, the craving for status, the pursuit of applause, and the temptation to make life revolve around ourselves.
Pride fuels conflicts in marriages.
Pride fractures friendships.
Pride divides churches.
Pride stirs quarrels among nations.
Pride constantly asks:
"What about me?"
Humility asks:
"What would glorify God and serve others?"
Jesus taught:
"Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted" (Matthew 23:12).
The pathway upward in God's kingdom is downward.
The way to greatness is servanthood.
The way to honor is humility.
The way to life is death to self.
As Andrew Murray wisely observed:
"The greatest mark of a holy life is humility."
C. S. Lewis wrote:
"Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less."
And Augustine famously said:
"It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels."
The proud heart seeks its own glory.
The humble heart delights in God's glory.
The proud heart wants the throne.
The humble heart bows before it.
The proud heart says, "Look at me."
The humble heart says, "Look at Christ."
And in the end, only one of those paths leads to life.
"The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever" (1 John 2:17).

Pride, it's weirder than weird. Not what any of us are to be about.

What if your spouse tragically came out as gay. What should you do?
PRIDE HAS NO PLACE INSIDE ANY HUMAN HEART.
A person may have desires or attractions to someone of the same sex whether he or she is Christian or non-Christian. These desires do not always automatically go away when a person becomes a Christian. However, the Bible clearly teaches that same-sex attraction and behavior are sinful. A person who accepts being gay or same-sex attracted as being good, acts upon it, or encourages others to do the same is not living the way God calls us to live. How we see and respond to our sin matters.
In a good sense, I feel proud of many Americans and my country. Before God, there is no room for boasting with the other kind of pride. Whether a person's struggle is sexual sin, pride, greed, lust, anger, drunkenness, gossip, self-righteousness, or any other sin, every one of us stands in need of God's mercy.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
The Bible does not single out one group of sinners as uniquely guilty while excusing others. Scripture teaches that all humanity has rebelled against God and that salvation is found only through faith in Jesus Christ.
Homosexual practice is listed among sins that dishonor God's design (Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11), but so are many other sins that are often socially acceptable. God's standard is holiness, not comparison.
Therefore, Christians should not respond with hatred, ridicule, or self-righteousness. We must speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), remembering that apart from God's grace we, too, would be lost.
Likewise, there is no virtue in celebrating sin of any kind. The issue is not whether one sin is worse than another in the eyes of society. The issue is whether our lives are submitted to the authority of God and His Word.
Pride itself is a serious sin. Scripture repeatedly warns:
"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18).
Whether pride is rooted in sexuality, morality, politics, success, wealth, race, religion, or personal achievement, it exalts self rather than God. The gospel calls us to humility, repentance, and faith.
The Christian message is not "We are better than they are."
All sin hurts God's heart. He is holy. The Christian message is:
"We are all sinners in need of a Savior."
The good news is that Christ receives repentant sinners. The church is not a museum for the righteous but a hospital for the broken. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, forgiveness, cleansing, and new life are available to all who repent and believe.
As the apostle Paul reminded the Corinthian believers after listing many different sins:
"And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus" (1 Corinthians 6:11).
The answer to human brokenness is not pride. The answer is Christ.
