At Yale the Novelist Alice O'Connor (aka self acknowledged Agnostic Ayn Rand) was asked “What’s wrong with this modern world?”
She basically responded with, “Never before has the world been more frantically asking for the answers to crucial questions and never before has the world been so frantically committed to the idea that no answers are possible.”
The modern attitude of the world is: Father forgive us for we know not what we are doing and don’t really want any answers.
Barna Research has found that: Only 18% of those who call them Christians read the Bible every day. And 23% of so called Christians say that they never read the Bible at all..ever. Tragic!
God has revealed himself to us. Yes he has, up in the skies says the Psalmist, in the Scriptures too, and in our souls (we sense his kind solace and grace). He has revealed himself so that we each could know him on a personal basis.
“To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun..” Psalm 19:1-4
“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” Romans 1:20-21
God has clearly spoken, there are viable answers in the Bible and yes, there is absolute truth.
Can the Bible really change my life? Yep!
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” Psalm 19:7-10 Six groups of three here. Different titles for the Bible.
Really now.. does the Bible really change a person’s life? Yup. God changes us by his word! We turn from sin to Him, we opt to trust and believe in him and we are born of his Spirit.
The world loves to talk about growth and spiritual growth these days, but there is zero spiritual growth independent of God’s word.
This is what else it will do for you. The Psalmist says it restores your soul converting your souls. It refreshes your inner person, the real you. It deals with your soul in such a good way. It will renew your mind – it makes wise the simple. Practical guidance. It helps my family, it helps in financial challenges, it helps with my health as well. It rejoices your heart to where you want to have a righteous PARTY! It can work ya over if you’re acting destructive, but more so it’ll refocus your vision. Illuminating the dark. It’ll remain forever. The principles in this Book stay accurate – they remain forever! Timeless!
Obeyin' the word of God and promptings of the Spirit -- way smart to do.
Teach it by livin' it. Opt to learn early, then to example it, and to simply encourage others to also wisely submit to the authorities around them. Brilliant, even safer (lifestyle) and humble too!
General statement: You can never get over those things that God has put under you until you get under those things that God has put over you. Talking about direct and flawed delegated authorities.
Think about it. Remember that centurion soldier back in the day. See Matthew 8:5-13, Luke 7: 1-10. He was under the authority of Rome so he could be in authority.. and that's what he well understood.
Blessings and Kingdom authority -- for growing believers and not for those with a rebellious human spirit. Not for those who cling to their rebellious attitude. Let it go. We are to submit principal short of sinning. If a flawed delegated authority commands you to do something wrong or hurtful, you are not to submit to that.
"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.” Romans 13:1-5
Some Christian people get confused between their calling and their vocation. Listen, what if you blow it really bad and end up behind bars long term and then repent and get right with God? Some from prison ask about this and wonder if they permanently are "disconnected from their original calling that God created them to enjoy."
I respond to them with.. You cannot miss your calling unless you get to the very end of your life in your final moments, you're about to die, you were disobedient regarding grace, standards, and God's Old Testament top ten list all the way through and then you decide to ignore Him and you die independent of the Jesus of the Bible (God's only provision for our sin). Your calling and mine is primarily to Him, an ongoing relationship with God through Christ. If you are born of the Spirit and daily seeking the Lord and His will for you guess what.. You aren't permanently cut off from your calling", believer. We serve the God of second chances, the loving Lord of fresh new beginnings (See John 3:3-16).
Does that mean that the hard consequences for your bad decisions will just go away after you repent and believe. Most of them won't, duh, cuz God will leave them there in order for you to learn from. But His JOY, righteousness, eternal life, and strong peace that passes all understanding also won't go away either unless you turn back to your old pet sins and idols. So keep going as Christ leads. Keep on growing up into full maturity -- that's what every believer on the inside and on outside of iron bars needs to do. There are people that need to hear your story and the Gospel message.. in and out. Properly fearing God and obeying both direct and delegated authority short of sinning -- these are good things for us to do.
You and I can get candid with God about our feelings, can then humbly deny self to wisely submit to a flawed boss, cop, teacher or parent. I mean in a smart and respectful way.
Is there ever an exception? None should obey their parents if they are commanded to do something harmful to others or to themselves.. Say NO when the parents are commanding the son or daughter to sin? Perhaps at times, you can prayerfully appeal (with respect) towards these delegated authorities for another good way to go instead.. it they are wanting this son or daughter to accomplish something that in the end ain’t bad.
There is great joy in Jesus and in serving people as he leads you to. In fact, there’s more joy in serving him and others than there is in being served by others.
"The greatest among you shall be your servant." Matthew 23:11
Jesus enjoyed serving sinners like me. Like us. Sure he did. We can too.. in him.
He (your heavenly Father) sees it all -- our works of service.
None of us can get into his Kingdom by earning or by any works, but after we’re in we can work well. Don’t really want mine burned up like worthless chaff.
In Christ.. the Father guides by His Spirit. He helps us and empowers in his service. He is so fair, understanding compassionate, and pleased with your helping of others in his will, and he will reward you for obedience. But the selfish, bull-headed, stubborn and prideful know-it-all folk will end up with their own rewards so to speak and ain’t gunna be stoked on em.
God ain’t the type to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have shewed toward his name ..and towards his Son’s name (Jesus, the only way in, and provision that he’s given for our sin issue).
“For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.” Hebrews 6:10
“Kindness to the poor is a loan to the LORD, and He will repay the lender..”
Proverbs 19:17
“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward."
Matthew 10:42
“But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.“
Hebrews 13:16
Are trade labor unions unbiblical? Is organized labor anti-Christian? Some bosses are mean and harsh, and others are decent and kind-hearted. Love always protects. Should we believers seek protection from cruelty via a labor union?
How can we store up treasures in heaven? What does it mean to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven?
“'Put the needs of others first. Serve others.’ And Jesus said, ‘For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many’” Mark 10:45 nkjv
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.“ Mark 10:45
A study by Carnegie Mellon University found that older adults who volunteer at least 200 hours a year decrease their risk of hypertension by a whopping 40 percent. And other studies have shown that those that help others live longer.
We are to put the biblical worshiping of, and listening to, and relationship-building with God ahead of working for him, but service does have it’s place in the Christian walk. Remember Mary and her sis Martha? Mary was commended, but a good labor of love will have it’s place.
Worship is a JOY. It’s our first ministry so to speak.. unto Him.
And then on the horizontal doing what God wants for other people right there in his will.. that hard smart work under Christ’s Lordship.. can be such a huge joy.
If only we could discover the joy of serving others. Conventional wisdom says, “Everyone should serve me. I’m entitled. You owe me. Take care of me. I don’t want to work. I don’t want to apply myself. I just want everything to come my way.”
Work or ministry can become an idol, but we’re confident of better things for you as you serve.
Are you married.. well, serving your spouse is your second priority service (and I mean marriage to one of the opposite gender of course).
Many people who are in what we might call professional full time ministry are often considered sort of the elite in Christianity: “Hey, they are the ones really serving God. I’m just like out here in the regular old dog eat dog workforce. How could I bring glory to God like they do?”
Oh contraire. Oh yes, YES you can glorify the Lord in what is often called lay ministry. Effective ministry with the right heart and motives is considered effective ministry by the Lord.
Know God well, seek him in his word well, make him and his Gospel well known. Yes, I challenge you. Use your Bible as you serve -- too many for get the Book of books.
Learn to serve him and others well. Serve in some practical way, shape, or form that aids a life or lives. Pray well, it beats saying your prayers well.
Point to Jesus with all your serving.
How many of Jesus’ original disciples in the gospel accounts and through the book of Acts were professional ministers? The Apostle Paul was a tentmaker. He received some helpful gifts, but he also had a so called side-hustle to support himself much of the time. He never wanted to be a burden to others as he gave out the best Message of all. Not at all slighting full time paid ministers, I am glad for and thank many of them. We want to minister to them as well, because they need it at times. Sheep can bite hard, there’s lots of church-hurt out there, and some shepherds sadly can bite back or real hard too.
My number one priority is to know and serve Jesus. It’s to spend time with him and to bring glory to His name.
And my number two priority is to be a good husband, a good dad (my three sons are all grown up), and now to be a good grandfather to their kids if I am allowed to be.
By the way, that comes even before your “ministry at the church, Mr. Pastor or Mrs. Church Worker.” It’s God first, spouse second, children third, Christians at church and others out there in the world next.
To walk wisely, we need to keep our priorities in order day in and day out. .Every Christian is a full time minister, on the clock at work or off the clock. We are called to Jesus primarily.
Yes, we are called to the Lord and then to do something good for God’s glory as he leads each of us. In his letter to the Romans, Paul called himself “a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God” (1:1 NKJV).
Every Christian can daily, prayerfully walk circumspectly and bring glory to God. We live for Christ, not for work or anything else primarily.
Come to Jesus today, be ministered to by him, and then serve him every day. Look to him, go back for the details of how he wants you to rest and serve and wisely apply the word. No worries, he won’t quit meeting your needs.
Great idea for today -- diligently sow to the Spirit (in the Bible and wisely applyin the word. And in prayer, in fellowship upwards and outwards, and in witnessing to lost people of your intimate faith in Jesus Christ) and not sow to the flesh or to the world.
The spirit (that's pneuma in Grk) is willing, but the flesh is weak. All believers know the struggle. But when we watch and pray—when we remain spiritually alert and appeal to God for help—we can find strength in the time of need (see Psalm 46:1 and Hebrews 4:16).
“Flesh” refers to the human body and inner fleshly nature, with its moral and physical frailties. Believers now have a new nature. Remember when Jesus found His disciples unaware and sleeping in Gethsemane, He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” (Matthew 26:40).
Man, that would have been more helpful for em. Remember afterward when He told them all to watch and pray in order to avoid temptation. Proper sowin' builds a believer up so they can walk strong. Is it too early to quit? Yup! So press in to know, better serve and glorify Him.
One evening, a Cherokee Indian elder was teaching his grandson about life.
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight, and it is between two wolves. This battle that goes on between the two wolves is inside us all.
One wild dog is Evil. He is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”
He continued, “The other is Good. He is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wild dog will win?”
Wisely, the grandfather simply smiled and replied, “The one you feed.” (There are probably other variations on this story, but you get the idea of what each dog represents.)
Want to grow up healthy and strong, believer. Well, it's up to you and me. It's up to each of us with the living word. Why? Cuz there's really no spiritual growth apart from the living Word.
You’re the branch, believer, and He is the Vine. (How’s that for dif good illustrations mixed together to say the same thing? Hah!)
Jesus: “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (See John 15:4-11)
Yes, the spiritual growth of course comes from Him, the Lord of all. He is the vine and we are the branches so we don't need to strain to try to produce fruit.. we just abide in fellowship with the Jesus of the Bible. My real opponents are this corrupt world system, my inner fleshly nature and fallen angels that try to tempt me to do what they tempt me to do. Me. Lu-Cifer so to speak.. hates you and has a horrible plan for your life. But God is bigger, He still loves you, can forgive and restore anyone and He has a really good plan for your life as you submit to/follow his Son.
I'm talking about leading a disciplined life of victory where you are empowered by the Spirit in the center of God's will doing His will. It's such a joy to be a born again Christian smack dab in the middle of His will. There are definitely some things that we can do to cooperate with the Holy Spirit and Christ's Lordship.. moment by moment throughout the day. Like simply list to the word and obey, duh!
1.What is the flesh? What is the flesh? What is the Bible talking about when it refers to the flesh? Is it our physical bodies or our sin natures?
3.Is “you reap what you sow” biblical? Is this even right and true and biblical? Does the Bible teach that you reap what you sow, and if so, what does it mean?
4.What are the greatest promises in the Bible? What are the greatest promises for you and me to claim by faith from His Book? What are the most important promises in the Bible?
5.What does the Bible say about sowing and reaping? What does the Bible about building yourself up in your most Holy Faith? What, sowing and reaping like a farmer with seed does? How do the concepts of sowing and reaping apply to us today? fish4souls.org
Have you really heard the Message? We can't measure up, we can't work to deserve what God has for us. We can't in any way work to earn a right relationship with God. Nope.
Have you turned and trusted.. and asked about God's will for you? Have you gone back to Him now and then to ask about the specifics of His will for you? Have you prayed about your calling? Why not? His calling for you is primarily to Him.
The Gospel says that you are more sinful and flawed that you ever dared believe, but you are more accepted and loved than you ever dared imagine.
God’s person in the center of God’s will doing what God wants him or her doing is 100% immortal until God is done with them here.. yup, until God wants him or her coming home to Him. True, no fears born again believer.
Now, if you intentionally walk into the middle of a New York intersection in the Bronx during rush hour then guess what.. your time has come.
God listen well, grow and know Him well, go build a bridge well ..rather than burn a bridge down. “Go ..tell” well so they too can enjoy well.
Well > Spiritually Sick
Alive and Blessed Forever > Choosing Destination Hell (That was Actually Created for Fallen Angels) By Rejecting God’s only Solution for you - Christ
Want to follow close..I mean Him? Want to share His Bible Gospel clearly with all who will listen ..by the power of the Spirit? Want to obey the Lord and glorify Him? Good, go for it!
"Jesus did not let him come, but instead He said to him, ‘Go home to your family and tell them all the great things that the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.’” Mark 5:19 amp.
“But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24:13-14
There are only two types of people here, saved sinners and unsaved sinners. You can turn and trust, you can biblically repent and believe in Jesus Christ today. You can come to do that on his terms.. you can approach God the Father through Jesus His Son. Takes a moment for that. Do you have a dead human spirit inside? You must be born again spiritually because.. Jesus said, “You must be born again.”
"Jesus did not let him come, but instead He said to him, ‘Go home to your family and tell them all the great things that the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.’” Mark 5:19 amp.
No time for fear. Think about Caleb at age 85.. he had hope inside, he went for it and won. Such a victor. It's who we was and is. You can think and act like him.
The San Diego Chargers have spent a whole lot of years trying not to lose. Caleb wasn't like that that. My great football coach dad in So Cal, Kim, told me and my brothers that the best defense is a good offense. Do you have that?
Trying to keep from losing.. that’s why the San Diego Charges kept losing so many years.
Better idea. Try to win, help is available, prepare well.. cuz you were born to do that. Who did actually did that, lived like that?
There are only 30 verses in all of the Bible about Caleb. And the secret of Caleb’s life is found 6 times in those 30 verses.
See Numbers 14:24, 32:12, Deuteronomy 1:36, Joshua 14;8, 14:9 (those are Moses’ words) and 14:14.
He wholly followed the Lord with all of his heart. Yup, he had a different spirit in him.
Think about, Mr. A.W. Milne. He was a missionary around the 20th century -- another true story. Mr. Milne was part of a group of radical missionaries who history has dubbed – “One Way Missionaries.”
What these men and women of God did was pack all their belonging in a coffin, buy a one way plane ticket to wherever they felt called by God. Many parts of Africa and other places around the world was known in those days and many years after as the “white man’s graveyard. These men and women of God knew they would never return home when they decided to go to the mission field.
As for A. W. Milne, he Knew that most of the missionaries before him died a martyr’s death, still he accepted the call of God to minister to a tribe in the New Hebrides – island group in the South Pacific Ocean that now is the nation of Vanuatu. There he lived for 35 years. God’s timing and favor had given him a break through among these people and there he enjoyed favor.
But A. W. Milne would never return home. After many years of fruitful labor for the Lord, he passed and was buried in the middle of the town.
The inscription on his tombstone could not have been more clearer: “when he came there was no light, when he left there was no darkness.”
Like Caleb, he too tried to win and did win. And God used him to win people to Jesus Christ.
He’s a person that loves you, not some mere impersonal energy. So relatable.
“In the beginning before all time was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. He was continually existing in the beginning co-eternally with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being. In Him was life [and the power to bestow life, and the life was the Light of men.” John 1:1-3
"And the Word (Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we actually saw His glory, glory as belongs to the One and only begotten Son of the Father, the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, who is full of grace and truth (absolutely free of deception)." John 1:14 amp
