There are more than 100 fascinating parallels between Joseph who was an illustration of Christ. Joseph was clearly an illustration of Christ Jesus -- the analogies are too numerous to be accidental.
It's interesting how both men were:
1.) Special objects of their father's love (see Gen. 37:3; Matt. 3:17). The Bible says...
"For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel."
"The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand." (See John 3:35; 5:20).
When going through the story keep in mind.. the first 11 chapters of Genesis cover a minimum of 2000 years--the first 11 constitute an introduction to the remainder of the whole Bible. From chapter 12 to chapter 50, the time is 350 years.
2.) Both men, were hated by their Jewish brethren (Gen. 37:4; John 15:25);
3). The great claims of both men were rejected by their brethren (Gen. 37:8; Mt. 21:37-39; John 15:24, 25);
4.) The brethren of both conspired against them to slay them (Gen. 37:18; Mt. 26:3, 4);
There was a conspiracy of hate by the brothers towards Joseph (the same thing happened towards Jesus), and a conspiracy of love by Joseph towards the brothers (It was a greater perfect love, but still a similar compassionate conspiracy from Jesus towards His hateful brethren).
5.) By intent and figure, Joseph was slain by his brethren, as was Christ physically (Gen. 37:24; Mt. 27:35-37):
6.) Each man became a blessing to and walking among the Gentles, each gained a Gentile bride and children (Gen. 41:1-45; Acts 15:14; Eph. 5:25-32):
7.) as Joseph reconciled his brethren to himself, and afterward elevated them near him, so will it be with Christ exalted and His believing Jewish brethren will be near Him (See Gen. 45: Deut. 30:1-10; Hos. 2:14-18; Rom. 11:1, 15, 25, 26). You remember how Joseph was the beloved son of Jacob, and Jesus was of course the beloved Son of God -- the Son of our Father God. Jesus would arrive on the stage of human history centuries later. He lived a sinless life, He was killed on a cruel cross, and come out of that tomb alive. Yes, He is alive and you can personally know Him today. (For graph below, thanks Jews for Jesus)
