Ask, seek, knock -- You can do this.
He and His specific will for you are knowable. Want His joy, purpose, plan and true security? Yes, you do. Of course, it won't say in the Bible: Hey, on such and such a day go this a certain store and buy this certain type of bread or milk. On really important things of this life here, (and there seem to be so many of those) sometimes I need to go back to the Lord in prayer asking Him for the specifics.
I say travel wisely, not foolishly even for one day. You got this, it can happen as you trust in the Lord.
You might feel like there are some places on God's earth that are safer than other places. The center of his will for you and me - that's our only safety.
"The Lord will protect you from all danger; he will keep you safe." Ps. 121:7-8 glt
"For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" Matt. 16:26
The Bible says, “God is our safe place and our strength. He is always our help when we are in trouble. So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken and the mountains fall into the center of the sea, and even if its waters go wild with storm and the mountains shake with its action.” Ps. 46;1-3 niv
"The earth is the Lord's.." and He has a will especially for you while you are here. What verses are good to look at on God’s will for you?:
To be saved (2 Pet 3:9).
To pray always (1 Thes 5:17).
To give thanks (1 Thes 5:18).
To be sanctified aka holy (1 Thes 4:3).
To forgive others (Col 3:13).
To love Him Mrk 12:30
To show love toward others Mrk 12:31
"The safest place in all the world is in the will of God." ~ Warren Wiersbe
Some people make their decisions based on their own ideas, or from friends' ideas, or on their fickle feelings, fleshly nature, or ever-changing values.. instead of by really praying about it all alone with God and His word.. which is much wiser.. and safer. Worldly people have all kinds of ideas and advice for us.. which will be bad for us to take heed to.. and bad for more then just us.
- What is God's good, acceptable, and perfect will (Romans 12:2)?
It is indeed God's will for you to know and follow Jesus. That takes humble repentance and faith.
It's God's will for you to thank, praise and worship Him acceptably.
"Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.” Ps 106:1
I say pray and obey for there's no better way to be happy in Jesus. That's the best way. He's the best and only way in.. I mean for where you really want to go and end up. It's God's will for you to get right with Him now and be with Him forever too.
God’s will is not a riddle, nor is it reserved for a select few. He desires that you know Him, walk with Him, and follow the path He has prepared for you. Jesus Himself said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7) His will isn’t about guesswork—it’s about seeking Him with a humble heart and trusting Him to lead you.
The Center of His Will: The Only Safe Place
Many people think safety is found in wealth, status, or the right location. But true safety isn’t about where you are—it’s about whose you are. "The Lord will protect you from all harm; He will watch over your life." (Psalm 121:7) The safest place in the world isn’t a fortress or a quiet town—it’s the center of God’s will. No matter where He calls you, whether to stay or to go, His will is your refuge.
God’s Will Is Clear In His Word. Yep, He's already Revealed Much Of His Will For You. He Wants You:
To be saved and know it. He wants no one to perish but all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
To pray continually and recognize his responses. A life without prayer is a life without direction - "be unceasing and persistent in prayer;" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). You have not because you ask not, Sport.
To give thanks from the heart. Gratitude aligns your heart with His - "in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
To think and live holy. Holiness isn’t optional—it’s His command "For this is the will of God, that you be sanctified [separated and set apart from sin]: that you abstain and back away from sexual immorality;" (1 Thessalonians 4:3).
To forgive God, you, your parents, and others too.. after you freely receive his forgiveness. Are you a real believer who's been forgiven by Jesus? You can be now. If you are a real believer, then He has forgiven you, so now it's time for you to forgive others ..with his help - "bearing graciously with one another, and willingly forgiving each other if one has a cause for complaint against another; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so should you forgive." (Colossians 3:13).
To love Him and by faith, show his love to others. These are the greatest commandments both upward (most) and outwards - "and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul (life), and with all your mind (thought, understanding), and with all your strength.’ This is the second: ‘You shall [unselfishly] love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these" (Mark 12:30-31).
These are not hidden religious riddles or some spooky mysteries that are to stay unknown. When the Bible speaks of mysteries it because God wants to make known some truth to you. He likes for you and me to know what's so. If you want to know God’s will, simply ask Him. Read your Bible. Start by obeying what you already know to be good. He has already made so much very clear in His word. His word is His will for you.
What About the Details Though?
You won’t find a Bible verse telling you which job to go take or where geographically to go live. But you can find His wisdom in God’s Word, and you can daily, earnestly, persistently seek Him in prayer. His mouth still works, do your spiritual ears?
Some people base their decisions on costly Super Bowl commercials, or on their fleating emotions, or on their friends' opinions, or worldly advice. That’s dangerous. Wise people seek God’s Bible guidance, and are not duped by the ungodly.
Romans 12:2 tells us that when we offer ourselves to God, He transforms our minds so we can discern His good, pleasing, and perfect will. His perfect will is what He desires for you. His permissive will is what He allows—but it may not be His best for you. The more you walk with Him, the clearer His direction becomes.
Trust and Obey - a Trustworthy Person
That's the Lord. Listen to him, not to the ungodly like in social media or anywhere. The best way to know God’s will? Pray, wait on Him, ask, and obey. Seek out godly counsel. God doesn’t just want you to know His will—He wants you to follow it. And His will is not just about this life; it’s about eternity. “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?” (Matthew 16:26). So seek Him. Ask. Knock. Listen to His Word. Trust Him Fully. He is for you, and His will is the only path that leads to abundant and eternal life.
"Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish." Psalm 1
Blessing, He's an expert in this (Psalm 1:1–3). God enjoys blessing your life as you walk in His will. Let's be and stay “blessable.” That means having spiritual discernment (v. 1). It means avoiding the steps that lead to temptation and sin.
Notice in the text the digression: considering sin (walking), contemplating sin (standing), being comfortable in sin (sitting). Watch that first step!
Blessing involves choices to delight (v. 2). Yes, that involves daily and moment-by-moment choices. Where or what do you take delight in? Do you turn away from what God doesn't delight in (sin, unholy, impure worldliness, the wrong kind of entertainment)? The Word guides your walk and rejoices your heart. Meditation upon truth is to your inner person what healthy digestion is to your body: you make the Word a part of your life and guess what.. you grow and mature spiritually.
"When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies." Jeremiah 15:16 nlt
Blessing involves dependence (v. 3). Your spiritual roots go down deep into the resources of God’s grace, and then you bear fruit upwards because His zoe life that is at work inside of you.
Perishing - you and I certainly don't want to do that (4–6). How tragic that anyone is perishing away from the presence of God the Father, when Jesus offers abundant and eternal life! In the text, go ahead and contrast tree and chaff to see the difference between the godly and the ungodly. The goats will be separated from the sheep one day so to speak. The godly receive blessing but the ungodly receive judgment. My favorite Psalm (1) starts with “blessed” and ends with “perish.” The choice is yours, and not to choose.. is to choose. Get right in the light or left in the dark (with a horrible lake added in).
